Hey, I was looking at ultrawide monitors and noticed that the same size 3440 x 1440p screen costs about 2 times as much as a 2560 x 1080p monitor. How noticeable is the difference between the two? I am looking for one to pair with a GTX 1070.

Better real screen estate when on desktop. The 3440x1440 is a lot better for working or doing stuff.... for games it is about the same except that 2560x1080 is a lot easier on GPU.

Also if you go above 29" 2560x1080 beware of really bad PPI especially if you sit close to your monitor.

So no noticeable difference in games?

Not really. Unless you want larger display then I suggest 3440x1440 34". I have seen 2560x1080 at 35" and it is terrible.

Personaly I am waiting for Samsung CF791.

The resolution is about 1.8 times larger. I personally prefer higher resolution monitors as you can typically fit more on the screen. I use 1440p exclusively now with all of my monitors as it is decently in the middle between 1080p and 4k.

Assuming screens of the same size, the difference is the same as going from 1920x1080 to 2560x1440.

As far as how noticeable the difference is, that depends entirely on the screen size and your particular tolerance for screen sharpness. I have a 21.5" monitor in front of me that runs 1080p in games and i have to turn up the Anti-Ailiasing quite high in order to get rid of unwanted jaggies. that effect will be amplified on a much larger screen. this is where higher resolutions come in handy as they produce finer images in games. Keep in mind that higher resolutions are also more difficult for your GPU to run at high fps.

a 2560x1080p ultrawide in my opinion will look terrible for games.. 1080p is dire.. like i can actually see the individual pixels on a display 26" or larger.. infact i can tell if a monitor is large and 1080p because i get motion sickness almost instantly..

id get a 3440x14400, i have one and can vouch that they are very much worth it! i ahve a 34" acer predator x34.. admittedly they are £900/$1200 but my god was it worth every single penny.

If you're referring to a 34"/35" 2560x1080 display, then I can't comment. But, in the case of a 29" monitor, I don't agree with your opinion.....and that's all we're expressing here, opinions. I have an AOC Q2963PM 29" IPS display and it's brilliant for gaming and movies, and no, I don't see the individual pixels. You talk like having a 2560x1080 monitor is crap for gaming, I don't think so.....not everyone is able or willing to pony the cash for a 34" 3440x1440 monitor.
