So, got my beefy new PC a month or so ago, now the next thing I think is due for an upgrade is my old Asus VH222 monitor. Now by the title you can guess what I'm asking, 1080p or 1440p.......

But along with that come a few more things to think about:

- price

- build quality

- specs (refresh rate and such)

- image/color quality (somewhat important)

- size (yes it matters in this case)

so firstly the price, I can't say a certain budget cause right now my wallet is still bare naked after that 480... and also due to stuff costing sometimes a bit more and sometimes a s*** ton more in my country and sites like newegg and amazon are not an option for me. But let's say around $200-350, I'm open to all suggestions even if it's a bit over $350 but of course I'll see what's available in my country and which seems as the most for the money.

then the quality of the monitor, I mean with this aprox. budget I don't expect it to be made from gold, but I do hope for it to not die or break on me unless it's for a reason (such as me dropping it, hitting it or bullshit like that). Also if it has one of the neat stands on which you can have it sit higher would be nice.

onto the specs, now here due to the probable budget (still not determined) I'm guessing I'd be choosing between an all out 1080p 144hz 1ms and a 1440p 60hz 5ms monitor, which is still a bit harder to choose. What makes it harder to decide about this is that this isn't a rig just for gaming or productivity/work, it's both. Even worse is that I work a lot in Illustrator and Photoshop (started ZBrush too recently) so for that a 1440p display would be heavenly, but then there's the fact that I also play a crap ton of games all from competitive to open world and story games which would be awesome to have a 144hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time especially for competitive.

as for image/color quality I mean this is something I'm not sure if I should be getting too deeply into, I've watched a video comparison of an Asus vs BenQ monitor (same prices) and the Asus one had a far better image, which is important to me quite a lot. But then again (just my guess) the $300+ monitors probably have much better image quality than my current one which would still be a good upgrade, tho still I wouldn't be able to sleep if I knew there was a monitor with a similar price but with a much better image/color quality. But just to be clear, I'm not looking for the best monitor picture quality wise in the world, just the best at it's given price.

and then the all so important thing: size. Here it matters, it matters a lot. My current monitor is a 21,5'' which is starting to seem small, makes me feel claustrophobic (in a way.......) so I want a bigger display BUT one of the biggest problems here is that if it's a 1080p monitor I don't want to stretch the res too far, rather not over 24'', but if it's a 1440p I would want to take advantage of a higher res with a noticeably bigger display (but still keeping the res at a good density). And another thing is that I don't sit so far away from my monitor, I mean I am sitting close than I would like to due to 21,5'' but still I wouldn't sit more than say 80cm away, so as I said if 1080p is stretched more than 24'' I'm gonna notice the pixels and I'm not gonna like them >:(

Oh and also the FPS, I have the 8GB 480, I used AMD's VSR to test games at 1440p, most run very nicely (even GTA V maxed out without MSAA runs at 50-60FPS, Witcher 3 maxed out with hairoworks only for Geralt and quality of hair at low works with around 50FPS at 1440p, most other stuff over 60 and even 80FPS), but still I'm not 100% if I want to give up a few FPS.... As I've noticed in some games the FPS in 1080p vs 1440p differs by 5-10FPS and in some by 15-25FPS, in some games like GTA V for some reason with 1440p VSR it seemed to run smoother than at 1080p but was getting like 10FPS less.......weird.

And finally the last thing in this damn long post, I'd like to hear who thinks that the Asus VG248QE is one of the best 1080p monitors? Cause people have been telling me that it's one of the best (some claim it's the best) so if true should I take it as the "default" choice for a 1080p monitor?

Well whoever read it all or most of it, thanks, I hope you didn't was too much time on it :D

Thanks for your input, just a non related question, is there a way to add a poll to this thread or do I need to make a new one to have a poll?

Ok I did a bit of searching and as I see 1440p monitors cost wayyyyyyy too much in my country compared to 1080p, the only 1440p I found within the prices of the better 1080p ones is some Dell which is 60hz but 8ms response, damn... all others I saw were $600+ besides another "crappy" Dell 1440p at around $450 which is still more than the Asus 144hz 1080p one.

With these prices, would it even be worth paying that much or should I just stay with a 1080p but 144hz 1ms monitor? I guess with a 1080p I'll get a bit more time to play games maxed out with nice FPS :D
