Formatting disk partition?

if you select just the partition, it will only format that partition.

Hi,

 

I am setting up my computer for dual boot and so I want to create a new 200GB partition on my 2TB hard drive. I have successfully added the partition however I need to format it and I don't know if formatting it will delete the whole drive or just the partition?
