So when you say hardwired, you want to remove the powerline and use ethernet cable the whole way?

If you want to do it cleanly, you will want to get wallplates with rj45 keystones, and run a length of cat6 through the wall. Depending on the requirements where you live, you may also need gangplates behind the wallplates - and some countries have specifications for low power cables (ethernet) to be a minimum distance from high power cables (power sockets).

You can also get surface mounting sockets, such as this which removes the need for gangplates: http://www.radioparts.com.au/product/43075035/sm288idc-wht-dual-cat5-surface-mount-socket-rj45-idc-punch-in-termination#.V-QlrnpBFeg

Then once you have the wiring done, you just put a switch upstairs if you want to connect multiple devices.
