So got my self a nice new job and wanted to treat myself with a new Pc a's I play on a laptop at the moment and always left unsatisfied with gaming results!

Here's what I've got so far: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/wqwMVY

Also this is pretty much my budget limit.

All advise is welcome.

Thanks.

You've got a 144hz 1080p monitor....I hate to say it but in your case the infamous 1070 "bottleneck" would apply to you. You have two choices:

1) Fit a 6700k in your budget

2) Opt for a 1440p 60hz panel instead.

Comes down to personal preference but I rather deal with acceptable but lower refresh rate than battling IPC very often to sustain 120+ FPS for that monitor.

And in the infamous bottleneck situation, I was able to achieve ultra no AA 120fps+ in games like R6S on a i5 3570k :P

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Most games will be ok but it's been observed on others.

But yeah it is quite overstated I personally don't really think it's a terrible issue when you're well over 100 sustained anyways.

getting a better CPU isn't a bad idea if it can be afforded, but downgrading your monitor makes literally 0 sense. a 6600k can and will very often be able to hit those really high refresh rates in all but the most CPU intensive games. A monitor running at 60 hz looks the same as another monitor that runs at 60 hz (even if its capable of running more). There is no visual difference.

looks like an awesome build with a solid aesthetic. it would be beneficial to have a 6700k as misanthrope said for when you encounter CPU intensive games as the 6600k will struggle to match that AND a high refresh rate, but its hardly necessary.

The 144hz is there for when I play games like csgo, lol and things like that which I hope the bottle neck won't effect ;) but for more demanding games will the 144hz still be beneficial even if it's just a constant 80-100 fps?

I was thinking if I went with a 6600k I could always upgrade later next year to the i7 and give the i5 to my brother when the/if I do upgrade. Also thanks!

They can be, but M.2 is just the form factor. So for example a Samsung 850 EVO M.2 would be the same as the SATA version. You would need something like the Samsung 950 PRO or SM961 etc for super fast read/write speeds.

Ah so the one I had is the same speed as standard SSD?

Yes.

Read/Write speeds are in the product description:

https://www.sandisk.co.uk/business/computing/z400s

So any of those ones I linked above will be about the same speed. The Crucial MX300 would be my choice out of the three.

I don't consider a higher resolution monitor a "downgrade" Actually the opposite: more detail and acceptable frequency (60hz) it's better than more frequency at a lower resolution. By your logic we should all be playing on 720p 288hz displays.

The reason I went for a 1080p 144hz is because I still do play competitive games like csgo and lol and I'd like to see how it feels as everyone I've seen mention once you go there you can't go back. Also I've never played at 1080p before so the jump in quality will be huge for me. Also I do enjoy playing games at 60+fps is there a chance that more demanding games won't run at 60 with a 1440p?

Not soon the 1070 is very powerful but yes eventually you might need to tone settings down sooner at 1440p. If you do like 144hz 1080p that's fine too but do consider fitting a 6700k in your budget if at all possible.

Would the gaming performance increase that much to worienting the bigger price tag? I did a few searches and found only a 10 fps increase on some titles for the 6700k.

That is way over £1300 without the peripherals on UK partpicker.

No it would be mostly just that. It's just that you might notice a 4 core/4 threads CPU ocassionally pegged to 100% usage on high refresh rate games and very slight dips and some people make a big deal out of that "bottleneck" and insist you need a 6700k for high refresh rate 1080p gaming. In my opinion it's still unnecessary but I thought it was fair for you to know about that little bit of extra performance that can be had.

Not on the UK partpicker it isn't. Your build has no price for the monitor on there.

Just wondering where you got the 1191 figure from, dido you convert it via exchange rate? Or did you use UK prices as they are more expensive in the UK and tend to be cheaper in US
