that's the same as an i5, you'll want a 123x for the multithreaded performance.

agree with mcpootis, stick with haswell xeon since the board itself have dropped in price, so you could maximize the budget on processor & gpu.
still choose the RX480 tho, relatively lower price, more VRAM

What about this card

better than the rx 480, go ahead. but if you're gonna play lots of dx12/vulkan titles than the 480 might be a better choice.

skylake xeons will not work with h110/b150/h170/z170 motherboards, they only work with c23x motherboards.

cannot seem to find one on msy :/, also would a 1151 bored with ddr3 be a good choice?

i think it should be fine, you have to pay alot more for a c23x mobo, so i'd recommend sticking with the old haswell xeon instead.

Every skylake based xeon should go with 23x series chipset board, unlike the haswell which mainstream board have a cross compatibility with xeon, skylake mainstream board doesn't have that capability. If you buy a mainstream 1151 board (eg H110, B150, Z170) they doesn't have cross compatibility to use xeon. But 23x series chipset, other than focused to be paired with Xeon, it also have a cross compatibility with Celerons, Pentium, and Core series processor.

Some 1151 board designed to use DDR3 RAM (most are budget chipset like H110), and many require DDR4 RAM (higher end chipset).

So it would be smarter for me to just stay with a intel i5 then?

Save more money and this way i dont have to buy any more ram

if you get the haswell xeon, its $60more expensive and you still get to reuse your ram.

wait a moment, try this... https://www.mwave.com.au/product/asus-e3met-v5-lga-1151-micro-atx-motherboard-ab82440
it's an australian retailer, and have a C232 & C236 board listed in their web.

thank you all so much for the help!! suprised people actually helped!! thank you all for your time!

wait, that h110 asrock isn't gonna fit the haswell xeon, you need an lga 1150 motherboard that will fit it.
