Help with first build

Hi everyone,

 

I've been a subscriber of LinusTechTips for quite some time now and just joined the forums. I'm going to build my first PC very soon and would like your help and suggestions because I'm a newbie.

The parts I chose are:

CPU: Intel i5 Skylake 6600

M/B: MSI H170 Gaming M3

Memory: 2x8GB DDR4 RAM

Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 500GB SSD

PSU: SuperFlower 650W LEADEX Silver

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Green

 

I'm not going to get a graphics card yet because I don't have enough money, but I plan to get a GTX 1070. Is this build okay for gaming? Is there anything else I should change? My budget is around $800~1000 without the graphics card. Thanks in advance!

All requests should have the "this is my budget, what do you think?" format. You'd be surprised what you can squeeze in there. (That's what she said)

Maybe make a PC part-picker list. It'll tell you the cheapest of what item and it'll email you if you want to get your parts when they're cheap.

 

Your formatting kind of bothered me though, "8x2GB DDR4" should be "2x8GB DDR4". Just keep that in mind the next time, because afaik H170 doesn't support 8 DIMMS and DDR4 doesn't have 2GB sticks.

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

 

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Thanks for pointing it out! Just realized after reading your reply. haha I'm not asking for the cheapest price for the parts I'm looking for, I'm just wondering if the build I'm planning to build is okay. Maybe the power supply is not enough or too much, etc. Thanks

Without any calculation... your PSU is near certainly too powerful.

superflower is one of the best oems, up there with seasonic. they make the evga g2 and b2 line.

 

 

i would drop the 6600 to 6500, since paying an extra $30 or so for another .1ghz is just not worth it. you wouldn't see a noticable impact on performance.
