I prefer speakers to headphones, mainly because I enjoy being able to also hear my surroundings while listening to music / playing games. I also have a super directional mic that doesn't pic up anything except my voice so I can play games in chat without fear of background audio seeping in.

Super Cardioid Pattern mics will only pic up what's right in front of them, don't understand why more people don't use them.

Because my shitty desk setup at school doesn't allow for that sort of thing sadly

You don't need a lot of space, if you can use a regular desktop mic, like a blue yeti, etc. you can use one of these.

You can use a boom arm off the shelf to your left, or just get a regular desktop stand to hold it up like the little silver mic you already have. I'd also recommend using a monitor stand to get your monitors off the table, giving you more space for stuff beneath it.

Here's a great mic stand example.

Speakers > Headphones anyday.  Unless you're a CS:GO player and need to hear footsteps and soft sounds at all times, speakers give a more natural soundstage that IMO suits gaming and movies a lot more.

Music you can make a case for headphones though.

Well this really comes down to your use case. I cannot use speakers that often, because of family, so I have high end headphones and mid range speakers.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Yeah, a speaker and headphone combo would be real great.
