Hi there friends, looking to buy a new laptop.

I remember watching one of LTT videos a while back and Linus said you only need USB Type-C to use External GPU.

However after waching the HP Spectre video, I found that there are USB Type-C and USB Type-C ports with thunderbolt.

To clarify, do I need a laptop with a port that has USB Type-C with Thunderbolt 3 functionality. Or will any standard USB Type-C port work with an external GPU?

Got any suggestions of cheap laptop with thunderbolt on them ? I need laptop for back to school, but i thought I may as well buy one for the long run (so it can use external GPU in the future).

Im from the UK if your wondering.

Also, thank you very much for the fast reply, you helped me out loads. This is my first time on this forum and I didn't think any one would be willing to help, or help as quick.

The XPS 13 has Thunderbolt and starts at $800. But it's paired with an okay dual core processor. Any external unit is going to cost as much if not more than the video card you throw in it if you don't want it being bottlenecked

yeah but dual cores suck so hard, my friend has one and it is really slow loading videos.

Those new 'U' processors can barely handle the laptop they are in, let alone an external gpu

I had an XPS 13 2015 model. I found no issues with its performance. Plus "loading videos" is kind of a vague term. Loading from where?
