My friend has this crappy AIO:

HP 23-g204la

APU AMD Quad-Core E2-61100 (1.3 GHz, 2 MB de caché)

Doesn't have enough money to build a complete PC, but I got an idea since I saw this video:

Is there any way to add an external GPU like that? So he can buy an used 270-270x and call it a day until he builds a proper desktop.

Thanks!

yea, just use the mini pcie to pci express adapter that this is refering too, its not perfect by any stretch tho and its quite a hassle to plug in and out every time, not even to speak about possible compatibility issues.

Checked with HwInfo and it shows that the Motherboard has 1 PCIE long slot.

Must be unused since the PC has an APU.

Is it a bad idea to take apart the PC, get a PCIE riser cable (to extend the connection) and add the GPU?

So better to abort and wait for a proper PC?

Also the possibility of that mobo just don't accepting GPU's, I would have to mess up the BIOS so it uses the GPU as output, but if it fails I don't know if they have a clear_cmos.

well for waranty´s sake its a bad idea, for everything else its not. it really depends on where the pcie slot is located, since those riser cables can´t be infinitely long and you cant let the gpu dangle out of the back unsupported.

but now looking at the product page it looks like its not really supported either way, not the laptop extension card thing, and not a pcie riser cable.

They should have a clear CMOS thing. But it might be better to sell the AIO, and use the money to buy/build a decent tower.
