Z97-AR OC Help (again)! OCCT is getting too hot!

I have a Z97-AR with 4690k attached to a  Hyper 212 Evo.

I am trying to go for the 4.5Ghz mark. I hit it in the past, now I am just trying to set it back. I am using the OCCT stress test and my CPU is getting too hot! It hits 86c within the first 3 minutes!

I have done a stable OC of 4.5Ghz in the past! So I know my system is capable.

I am using these settings

Adaptive Mode

4.5Ghz all cores

Offset: .005

Turbo Clock: 1.290

Total: 1.295

LLC: Auto and 2 didn't really affect much.

ALL my system fans are set to ramp 100% when they hit 75c (BIOS qFan)

I even have installed another fan onto my hyper 212 Evo (total of 2 fans flowing in the same direction)

I even freshly replaced my old thermal compound with brand new MX-4.

Thanks for the help

I use Prime95 with small FFTs, as it can also (But with a little difficulty) be used on Linux. I haven't really OCd yet, as I'm waiting for a PSU for my secondary i5-2500k rig.

Yeah,l not using that. Just tried it with ffts and cpu literally hit 101c. Surprised my computer didn't crash. My cooling setup isn't that bad. Its better than most, just not baller watercool are extreme air cooling.

I think the voltage might be the problem. My cryorig H7 on my i5-2500k at stock stays at about 60c max.

You should be lower, at like 1.27 I'd say as a max for a mid OC. Most people seem to reccomend about 1.25 for an OC.

do not run synthetic benchmarks while in adaptive voltage mode. this artificially increases the voltage target and increases the thermal activity.

Ok, right now I am running OCCT at 1.295 and its still crashing. If I go any higher, it gets over 86c! What should I do? Isn't 1.3+v high anyways? I know I could have ran this test in the past at 4.5Ghz somewhere around 1.290- 1.310. I also changed to Manual. Does LLC have an impact or is Auto fine?

OCCT especially on the CPU:OCCT tab with Large Data Set really does a number on the CPU, which is it's purpose.  Much better stress than AIDA64.  You are running a fair amount of voltage on an air cooler.  Drop your clocks and voltage and you should be fine temp wise.

Try the overclock again in the winter and you might have some better temps once your ambient temps drop.

I thought AIDA64 was 'golden'..?

I understand that I am stressing a lot for an Air Cooler, but I could do it at one point is why I am confused. My ambient temperature only changes like 2-3 degrees at my house. Infact, my parents don't like to be cold, so in the winter, no joke, its hotter. I even tried x264 and its the same deal. Too low it crashes too high its uncomfortably hot.

I set llc to auto

Turbo and stepping is enabled.

Right now I am running OCCT stress test. current temps is 70C.

This is what I need to do?:

Enable adaptive mode with 0.05 override , set llc to 2. If it crashes set it to three and so on. Is there anything I should know?

I copied my words here ^^^ from an older post. 70C!!! How the heck. I was running a REALLY low voltages how.. I don't understand, some body explain. And that was with really crap Stock CM thermal paste.

Far from golden.  Most people like to use AIDA64 because it's easy to pass (makes their overclock look better).  :D  Don't get me wrong, I use it too, but I use it in conjunction with several other stability test like RealBench, OCCT, long encoding runs and so on.  Then I call it stable.  Using AIDA64 by itself to call your overclock stable is probably far from true.

CPU:OCCT with Large Data Set is definitely harder to pass so don't lower your standard now.

Why not look into purchasing an AIO cooler?  You seem serious enough about overclocking that it would be a good investment.

My reply to "I am a minor" would be, you did something to get all of that stuff in your signature.  You might want to repeat it one more time for that AIO.  :D

Good luck man.

yeah, I mean I could, I can even afford it right now. its just seems a little ridiculous to pay 120 for a water cooler. What would the temps difference even be?
