I just had a rather odd glitch/bug/issue on power up, the brightness of my main monitor seemed dim so I tried to raise it. The menu thing said it was all the way up, so i was like if this is max what is min gonna look like and turned it down and the brightness didn't change so i stopped about half way and went back and it got a little brighter each time. I went to the 'max' and it was at about half brightness. I went all the way back down and then up and it seems normal now. Any ideas what happened?

If I use words like probably or most likely, it is because I dislike certainty. These words can probably be omitted and the sentence read as a certainty.

What monitor? It may have an ambient sensor that's adjusting the brightness and has permission to override your inputs

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

Dried capacitors. The 204 series always had bad caps.

There are some issues with the back light failing on those monitors.  It's a pretty easy fix though if it goes out all the way.  Just do a search on YouTube for back light repair.  I'd let it go until it does fail though.

They had already put it in the trash and and its one of a kind while they have 25+ matching ones.

I think it will be fine now. I don't think its worth repairing if I do loose it tho.

It's probably only a $2 fix if you can solder a bit.  Otherwise I'd just get a nice 1080p monitor when that one craps out.

I know for certain I have the caps already and can solder more than a bit. I never intended for this to be my main monitor for longer than a couple months but have been using it for years now.

Jack has the same monitor. Every single capacitor was literally dry, all measuring <1μF
