of course not. 1060 and 480 are MUCH better options considering the 980 doesn't properly support DX12 or Vulkan

What? Maxwell does support DX12 and Vulkan. DX 12 and Vulkan did not even properly hit the market lol. Especially DX12.

The reasons to take a 1060 over a 980 is lower power consumption, similar performance, 50% more Vram.

And its NEVER a good idea to get a Reference GPU. Loud, Hot, Crap. If it's a good Custom model, then maybe. If you would pay 100 bucks more for a 1060, then it's fine. Depending on Prices

Tell that to the 980s getting outperformed by RX 470s in DX12/Vulkan games and yes, it has. More than 50% of WIndows machines are running Windows 10 and almost all AAA games coming out now are DX12/Vulkan

The 1060 outperforms a 980. Ofcourse budget needed for a 1060 is higher then the 980. But you talk about reference as in the Nvidia blower style gray reference card? If yes, don't buy those. Reference card are notorious for not to good cooling performance and noiselvl's, also resulting in less performance compared to aftermarket because of GPU boost(this especially applies big for the current 1000 series).

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.

um.... There is ONE vulkan game right now. Which are the "almost all games" coming out in Vulkan? Can you name me 2 more?

Oh right.... --> Vulkan = Irrelevant. Just a Doom benchmark right now, that is better optimized for AMD so far, and nvidias vulkan driver sucks pretty much (yes, even on Pascal). Way too early to say ANYTHING about Vulkan

Almost all AAA titles come out in DX12 now? LOL don't make me laugh ^^

Most DX12 titles have a CRAP SHIT DX12 implementation.

Deus Ex mankind devided? You're better off with DX11, since DX12 is just a crappy patch over it.

Rise of the Tomb Raider? That DX12 "patch" got "patched" even further a few times, and its STILL worse performance than DX11.

BF1? it's not finished yet, but DX12 was not helpful at ALL.

Hitman? That's a pure AMD title, no wonder the RX 470 is on 980 level.

It's a FACT, that DX12 is irrelevant as of today, as long the Games are not Build in DX12 from scratch - instead just getting a simple DX12 patch over it.

As long this is not the case, DX12 did not hit the market, and was not adapted.

So no. Almost all AAA titles still come with Pure DX11, and getting a simple, often not good DX12 Patch implementation.

There will be another 1-2 years easy, untill DX12 will be the new "real" standard for Games. Right now, its NOT.

There are only a few "good" implementations of low level api. Doom with vulkan, which is mainly an AMD game right now, and ashes of the singularity (since they had a Developer working with them, who has a lot of previous DirectX experience). But almost all DX12 titles... Meh.

How about you ask how much he would pay for a 1060? If that costs 350$ inhis country, but can get a 980 for 200-210, a 1060 would be a stupid choice. Price / performance.

Are you forgetting Dota 2 and The Talos Principle? Also Vulkan, also much better on a 480/1060

You are also forgetting Warhammer, Ashes, Quantum Break, Halo 5 Forge, Civ VI and etc.

I sort of agree. We will start seeing pure DX12 titles after Q2 2017 IMO.

Dota 2 and Talos principle have a Shitty implementation. Especially Talos Principle, where a GTX 1060 has 71% more fps than the RX 480 8gb. So can we say now, Nvidia beats AMD in Vulkan?^^

Yes, there are a few good DX12 titles. But more than half have not a good DX12 implementation so.... does that really count?

For me, this means: DX12 is still in a somewhat beta phase, it didn't hit the market really, and it's not really a standard now, or in the next year. It takes its time. Just like DX11 took its time back then when it first launched.

But what i really meant is: Think about the Price difference. If a good 1060 costs 300-350 bucks, but a 980 only 200 bucks? Heck why not.

I would even recommend a GTX 970, if its a good custom design, and cheap enough. For 120 bucks? Sure, would be a nobrainer for that price, thats for sure.

So every single game that proves you are wrong is a "shitty implementation"? Grow up and stop fanboying.

Yea, i suggest you look up what "Fanboy" actually means.

And while you're at it, play Rise of the Tomb Raider in DX11 and DX12. Unlike you, i did. And there are places, where DX11 gives more than 20% more fps than DX12. In BEST scenarios, DX12 is similar fast.

Oh how about you go look up Deus Ex mankind divided Benchmarks?

Let me do the work for you: https://www.computerbase.de/2016-09/deus-ex-mankind-divided-dx12-benchmark/2/#abschnitt_benchmarks_auf_einer_vierkerncpu_von_intel

DX12 runs ALOT worse than DX11. Because of bad implementation / early beta DX12 patch.

There is even an Article about DX12 itself, how it's irrelevant and those bad implementations causing more harm than good: https://www.computerbase.de/2016-09/kommentar-directx-12-es-hakt/

It's a FACT, that in many "DX12 titles", they just run better in DX11. Every test shows that.

So don't give me your Fanboy crap because YOU are unable to inform yourself about the topic, and YOU are fanboying about an API, that is still irrelevant. You act like there's is nothing else than DX12 and vulkan there, and nothing else matters.

I also suggest you start using your brain, and stop insulting me, because i don't share your "Fanboy" view of your beloved all perfect DX12.

I've seen enough good posts from you. I know you can do better.

But here this Bullcrap? That's below you, and you should know that.
