Hello LTT fam, I was wondering if I could get some opinions on upgrades for my build. With my 960 I have been getting by extremely well in the games I play but I want a boost. I play CSGO religiously (3.8k hours LEM-Global ELO) and other games such as ARK: Survival Evolved, GTA V, Overwatch,H1Z1,DirtyBomb, and hopefully BF1 when it comes out as well as any new games that pique my interest. I want a GTX 1080 but im not sure which one to buy. With a budget of $700-750 I wanted to know which ones you guys would recommend for me considering im very indecisive. I dont care about looks at all and or RGB considering my current case doesnt have a window and its under my desk anyways, and I would like a card that its factory overclocked but thats not too big of a priority considering I fully plan to overclock it myself. Lastly, for those who may be wondering, I have already purchased an EVGA Supernova 750 G2 to replace my Corsair Cx750m as I didnt trust that PSU with an overclocked 6700k+overclocked 1080.

If you're playing on a 1080@60 panel, I'd get a 1070 and a 1440@60 panel. If you can't I'd get the EVGA 1080 FTW and use DSR whenever you can.

Wouldnt the 1080 make more sense considering the fastest single card solution is usually better and less hassle? Also I could always use DSR if I really wanted to.

No, it wouldn't since you are still playing at 1080p. I don't know much about DSR, not going to comment on that. When you have more money, spend it on a nice 4K or Ultrawide.

Well I can stretch my budget to $1,000 but im not sure I want to do that. What reasons/benefits do you see SLI 960's having over a single 1080 if you dont mind me asking?

Price. You will spend about $120 on an another 960 as opposed to 1080, which costs $700. Since you have no plans to switch out your monitor, the 1080 would be overkill.

I dont really care too much about price lol, I just want the best performance I can get with the money I have. I do appreciate the price/performance/overkill concern but it doesnt really matter to me. Also seeing as how the 1080 will blow 2 960s out of the water in terms of sheer performance, that seems like a better option for me. The purpose of this thread was to get suggestions on which 1080 I should get. My fault for not specifically outlining that. So yeah, ixnay on the SLI 960s.

Ok and what seperates that from the FTW in terms of performance because it looks like they have the same clockspeeds. I heard that the classified and k|ngp|n editions were really geared toward hardcore LN2 overclockers which im not lol.

While they are great on LN2, they are also great on ambient, and will (generally) provide higher overclocks than the FTW.

Hrmmm.... That makes sense. Thanks for the responses lol. I may just go for the FTW considering I cant see myself paying more for higher overclocks that I may or may not get and even if the overclocks are higher to a certain degree, I doubt its worth the price premium.

I really wouldnt get the 1080 in your case. Your limiting factor is your monitor which could hardly take advantage of the card.

In this case I'd recommend the 1070 FTW. Take the money you saved and put it towards some games like Deus Ex, etc. Those'll put the 1070 in a good spot for performance.

Or you could take the 300 and buy a better monitor in the future.

If money isn't an object, I'd get the 1070 and a 1440 G-Sync monitor. It'll give you the best bang for the buck since you'll enjoy smooth framerate at every step.

That seems reasonable enough. Thanks for the response. Another thing, do you think it's worth waiting until Black Friday/Cyber Monday to buy a video card or will the prices not change much?

I usually see the prices change by 10% for GPU's. Some vendors sell the cards with rebates regularly as well. So that's up to you.

Monitors usually do get good sales (for almost any holiday) which I would definitely recommend waiting for since it's only a month or two away. I'd do research on all of the monitors on sale (as well as checking PCpartpicker) beforehand.
