UK VDSL2 Modem Options

Hey everyone,

 

I was wondering if anyone knows of any standalone VDSL2 Modems available in the UK.

I know of the Openreach one(s) and the Netgear DM200 and I am willing to get one of these if there are no other options.

I believe you guys also use Alcatel (Nokia) DSLAM's, same as we do in NZ & AU. If so, they most likely have Broadcom chip cards.

I second this information.  I've only heard good things about the Vigor 130.  Some have raised concerns about how often its firmware is updated from a security perspective, but its performance is solid.

draytek is also a good brand for DSL related stuff and features but they're more expensive and a good consideration if you want to use multiple DSL ISPs at the same time.

 

Usually your ISP would give you a modem with the same chip used in the DSLAM. If they use broadcom you will get a broadcom based modem so try to stick to that which is why there are 2 versions of the bt homehub 5.

 

I would prefer using SFP but unfortunately its not widely available for DSL.

I'll look into the Draytek Vigor 130 - It seems like BT officially support it anyhow.
