So I haven't encountered this before and I can't find a solid answer on it that either #1 doesn't confuse me, #2 is properly documented, or #3 is solved.

My membership page completemarketingsystems.biz/members works just fine.

My secondary page completemarketingsystems.biz/cbes works as well.

However, when i set the secondary page to be a child of the membership page... e.g. completemarketingsystems.biz/members/cbes (even when changing permalink structure) I get a 404 error.

No idea why!?!?

Yes I know the pages are empty (i'm building this site currently so it's supposed to be).

Any help from anyone who knows the solution please let me know so we can document it.

you are redirecting map in the 3rd link.
the 3rd link you posted links to the file cbes, inside the map members, which is inside completemarketingsystems.biz

So you would need to make a map called members and inside that a file called cbes in order to get the stuff working.

May the light have your back and your ISO low.

Try re-saving your Permalink settings under Settings > Permalinks.

According to this article from 2012, simply making a page have a parent page should allow your URL structure to work.

So how shall I do that? Do I do it in the host under control panel or in the WordPress installation?

If done with wordpress I think it should be done under the installation where the other maps are located, not really known with wordpress, more of a DIY person, but if you got acces to the server files directly through an FTP orso then you should be able to fix it inside the wordpress installation.

Did that many times in many different instances... same result.

Actually, I just realized, your /members/ "page" isn't a page at all - it's using your theme Archive template.

Care to try creating a page called "Animals" for me, and then creating a page called "Cats" or "Dogs" as child pages?

I work on WordPress sites for a living as a Front-End Developer so I'd be more than happy to take a look if you like.

@Bsmith WordPress pages are all handled via the CMS backend, and not via files on the server. (save for your theme and .htaccess files)

You gave it a shot, and thats what counts! To be fair, I haven't really done barebones file-based websites in a long time, so kudos to you on that note!

Just checked, and /animals/cats/ is working fine. http://completemarketingsystems.biz/animals/cats/

This means your /members/ "page" is acting as the URL slug for your blog archive (most likely) which is why you can't nest a page under it.

So what I'll do is destroy the structure and start the structure over again and see what happens.....

So I destroyed the original structure completely, recreated it. Same error, however when I change the name of the parent page from members to anything else... it works.... can someone explain?

For example http://completemarketingsystems.biz/membership/cbes/ works
