Questions about 2560 x 1080 OR 1440

AndreeVs

Owners or savvy people of 2560x1080 and 2560x1440, here's my question. What's better?

To narrow it down.

Is the ultrawide 1080 a better choice than a standard 1440? With similar price thresholds, does the ultrawide 1080 blow away the 1440?

There rare a large variety of 29" 2560x1080 monitors in the market. Some are even cheaper than a 25" 1440p display. For around 100$ more you can get a 34" 2560x1080, whereas a 34" 1440 would be roughly $700+ USD.

But is it worth it? To game on such a large display would take a butt load of horse power. It might look incredible, but does that mean a 34" 2560x1080 would be left behind a trail of dust? What is your take on this? Do you think that an ultrawide 1080 at 29" or 34" is the "sweetspot"?

There is a lot to consider as well. 21:9. Majority of the 29"/34" 2560x1080 monitors come with free sync. Allowing it to reach a 75hz refresh rate as a standard. A 25" 1440p is considered a sweetspot, and looks amazing. But exactly how much more?

What's your take on the better choice?

The monitors I'm keeping an eye on are:

It's nice to game on an ultrawide and even nicer to watch movies but 1080p ultrawide lacks one of the largest benefits of going beyond 1080p which is more vertical space.

1080 pixels isn't much vertical space--it's just enough but 1440p is where things start getting comfortable.

I'd personally go for a 1440p display over a 1080p ultrawide any day over even just a 1920x1440 display over ultrawide 1080p if that's ever an option.

If you're just gaming and you've used and like ultrawide, ultrawide 1080p works. Otherwise 1440p or ultrawide 1440p is a lot more versatile for general use.

More pixels will make things look sharper and more detailed. Just compare a game rendered at 720p vs 1080p and you'd see the difference.

I'm not sure if this is what you're suggesting, but the dimensions in inches do not affect gaming performance. All your GPU cares about is how many pixels are being rendered per frame, and 2560x1080 is 2,764,800 pixels no matter how many inches those pixels are stretched out across.

2560x1440 is going to be a little harder to run than 2560x1080, no matter what size the panel is.

i mainly opted for a 21x9 1080p as my main monitor because i prefere to watch movies without/ with barely visible black bars.

Also i like racinggames and a 21X9 was what i wanted for those games and i didn't feel like 1440p gaming was really possible with my old GPU (2gb gtx680)when i bought that monitor.

Nowadays i would still prefere a 1080p ultrawide over a normal 1440p because of personal preference but i would love to upgrade to a 1440p ultrawide

Ultrawide refers to to an aspect ratio (usually 21:9) wider than HD(16:9)

HD 1080p is 1920 x 1080 whereas Ultrawide 1080p is 2560 x 1080.

For me, it'd be uw 21:9 2560x1080 over 16:9 2560x1440 anytime. There's something abouttheextra width that makes gaming and watching 2.35:1 wide-screen movies so fine.

In fact, I'm so happy with gaming and watching movies on my 29" AOC UW monitor that I've ordered and about to received an Acer Predator ZR341ck with Freesync which will be arriving later tonight.

For me it was worth getting an ultrawide as well. It's only 1080p which is still fine though. 1440p ultrawide prices are still WAY too high imo. It doesn't seem worth it when it's around double the price of a 1080p one.

First build every: Intel Core i7 4790K, Asus Z97-A/USB 3.1 motherboard, Kingston HyperX FURY 1866 2x8 16GB Kit, Gigabyte Windforce GTX 970 G1 Gaming, Corsair Obsidian 450D Black ATX Mid Tower, Samsung 850 EVO 250GB & 3TB Toshiba HDD, EVGA SuperNOVA 750W G2, Corsair H100i GTX 240mm, Gigabyte Bluetooth 4.0/Wifi Card, Logitech G700S. Running on Windows 10

Surface Pro 3: i5 4300U with 8GB of ram and 256GB SSD. Running Windows 10 Pro
