So my wife wants her own computer for internet surfing and light office use, occasional light gaming (integrated GPU will be fine). For hardware, I already have a display and 2.5" HDD.  I want to keep it simple so I was thinking of just buying a mini PC like Intel NUC or Gigabyte Brix.  Any suggestions??  Budget: $500 CAD or less.

thanks!

Why not get a laptop?

They don't cost more than a nuc and can be moved.

Yeah, I agree. You can also hook a laptop up to a monitor and use it as a regular desktop with a mouse and keyboard.
