Hi LTT Forums, today I´m selecting the components for my first custom rig, and I wanted some help so I can improve my frames per dollars, this PC is meant for gaming (GTA saga, old and new Doom, Metal Gear Solid Saga, some new games, old games, ect) and video editing (in sony vegas 10 pro), I don´t want 100 fps in GTA V on Ultra, I only want to play some games in a decent fps (30 to 40) on whatever setting, I use to have an old laptop that only could run Unturned at 20 fps in minimum. My budget is around $600 to $700 dollars US, or $12000 pesos ARG (I´m from Argentina so everything we buy online from another country, we have to add 50% of the original price, and multiply it by 15).

The components I choose are:

CPU: Intel Core i5 6400 (I’ve wanted a i5 so a could have a better experience in gaming and video editing, my original choice was the 4690 but it is more expensive and I don´t get the same functions as the 6400, I´m not planning to overclock the CPU).

Cooler: Stock Cooler, in the future I’ll possibly buy a 212 Evo.

GPU: None, I know it’s important for gaming but I rather buy a GPU in the future, I’m planning to get the gtx 1060.

PWS: EVGA 500W 80 Plus Bronze (I know I don´t need 500W but I want the extra wattage for more expandability in the future).

Motherboard: None, please help, I can´t decide.

Case: Deepcool Dukase V2 (because I like it and I can´t afford the NZXT H440).

Ram: GSkill Ripjaws 2x4GB 2133MHZ DDR4 (I know that DDr4 is more expensive than DDR3, but I want to take advantage of the DDR4 capabilities of my CPU, and I think 8GB is enough)

Hard Drive: WD Blue 1T (the 500GB version cost almost the same so I rather buy the 1T version).

SSD: None, It´s just too expensive.

Operating System: Windows 10 (I know the privacy issues with this OS, but I like it as an OS).

Thanks a Lot, I’m waiting for your replies.

Welcome to the forums :)

Try using PCPartPicker to organize your list

Might I suggest using the build in my signature as a starting point? Try adding the 6400 (or better yet, 6500) to make it better for the editing

Thanks for the advice, its a good idea...

Hi! I can provide commentary on your build.

The Corsair CX450M PSU is much better than the EVGA 500B and has been much cheaper these days. If you can't find one at a similar price, the 500B is still OK.

Definitely would recommend an SSD. It will make your experience much much better and a 120GB model can be had for $40.

For motherboard, grab the cheapest/best looking B150/H170 board that has 4 RAM slots. If it's got an M.2 port, what better. That form factor is becoming more and more widespread.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

cdsboy2000's is pretty good, just downgrade to a 470, then you could get an i5.

you can get a pc with a gpu with that budget. As well as a ssd.

The only problem with buying a pc is that in this side of the world the pc´s that the builders make for selling are bad to say the least
