Hello all. I jerry rigged together an old Logitech 2.1 and 5.1 speaker system together into a makeshift 7.2. My problem is I have a Gigabyte 990-FXA-UD3, and it uses it's own version of the Realtek audio driver with Dolby home theater, and doesn't have any room correction options, or any options at all really. I've tried downloading and installing the newest Realtek driver, but even with windows set to not automatically update drivers, it always somehow defaults to the Gigabyte version with no options.

Is there any decent 3rd party application I can run alongside my current audio drivers to get room correction? I can't seem to find anything on the Google, but maybe I'm asking wrong.

For anyone wondering, my process was to set Windows to never automatically install drivers, uninstall Realtek via Control panel, run CCleaner, manually delete the files out of x86 Program Files, run CCleaner on the reg files again, reboot, turn off audio device in BIOS, install new version, reboot and re-enable audio drivers, and low and behold, there's the useless Gigabyte version again, and again with Dolby, which should've been completely wiped from the system. I don't know what else I could possibly try. I'm also running Win7 Home... premium I think.

Thanks, seems interesting, but it also seems like it only works for media players, not total system sound. Also doesn't seem to have room correction, but individual speaker gain settings is nice. Know of anything else that will work in games?

Do you real room correction involving microphones to actually adjust the system based on feedback?  I think only receivers have that function.

Just altering sound levels per speaker, many soundcards/external soundcards give you this option in the control panel.

Adjusting the balance level in volume mixer is something I vaguely remember as well.

I don't plan on using a mic. I could. Some of my old audio drivers allowed you to set room size and speaker position, which will alter volume levels and timing. It also puts your speakers in a more accurate position than whatever the program may think you have giving better sound staging.

Just use the 5.1

7.1 is not necessary in a small computer set up.

Although you think you have uninstalled the drivers by following your steps, you haven't! To uninstall them, go to control panel - device manager, right click the sound video & game controller right click on the soundcard, go to properties, and then click uninstall driver. Do that after removing all traces of the install on your PC. Then disconnect from the net and install the Realteck version. When all done, re-connect to the web. If it downloads again, go back to device manager and change the driver to the correct one using roll back or install new driver (and pick the Realteck one over the Gigabyte).

Always use device manager when uninstalling/re-installing drivers, rather than .exe files.

Have you tried to get to it in Windows sound settings? On mine I got to "Playback Devices"-> Properties (of the device you're using, probably says Realtek something something)->Enhancements tab, then I check the "Enable Room Correction" box then hit the "More Settings" and it lets me change the volume and distance of individual channels.

You can change the speaker size by right clicking the device and choosing "Configure Speakers", but only do that to make sure everything is set to full range speakers since the Logitech systems will take care of the that.

Hmm. Should I do that before or after? I believe I looked in device manager and saw no Realtek software under the audio, just Nvidia. Guess I'll try it out though, thanks for the tip.

Hmm. After looking through that and clicking driver details, it does pop up saying it has a bunch of files in system32 and syswow64, so I guess there was some leftover files.

In any case, I don't have that option either. The enhancements tab just lets me disable all sound effects, and speaker configuration does nothing as well.

Well the only other thing I can think of is something that I have to do every time I add a BT dongle.  Open Device Manager, under "Sound, video, and game controllers" right click your device and choose 'update driver' then choose "browse my computer for driver software' then 'let me pick...". Hopefully it will give you options. That is the only way I can change the driver for my BT dongle.

I saw you wrote there wasn't anything under 'audio' of Device Manager, but it wouldn't be there it would be under the controllers.
