Which to buy?

Hi LTT community!

I'm getting my second custom PC sometime in the next couple weeks for college and I'm met with a decision.

I can build my own PC based the Skylake i7 6700k and the new GTX 1070, or, I found a killer deal on my local Craigslist with a i7 4790k and a GTX 980ti with peripherals. The cost is $1350 and $900, respectively. I just can't decide if the new gen is worth that extra premium. I plan on playing simple games such as WoW, CS:GO, Overwatch and possibly BF1(I'm not one for AAA games).

The performance gains on the CPU are not worth it to go 6700K and a 980ti can OC and perform better then a 1070. I say buy it if you think it is a good deal

Go to a pc shop or E3 and see if you can tell the difference between 144 and 60 Hz, then look at the price difference.

 

intel cpu's dont have great improvements between generations, id say go with the i7 4790k build and overclock it.

the only reason to go for the 6700k is if you need the fast M.2 drive (if the mobo supports it) for photo shop n such.

but for gaming a ssd will be fine.
