So ive been looking at gaming laptops for a couple months now and the best price/perfomance laptop i can find is the msi ge62 apache pro.  Any other suggestions?  Must have 970m or above, i7 6700hq, and 1 tb hard drive.  Would prefer if it had an m.2 slot and needs to be roughly $1,500

I don't really know. The Acer Predator looks good to me, but it might be on the heavy side, and only the 15" mobile graphics card models will meet or only slightly exceed your budget. Other than that, the new Razor Blade 14, but that's twice the price of all the Acer Predator laptops, or if you've seen Linus' videos, a Gigabyte Aero 14.

The key reason why I recommend these specific laptops have to do with battery life.

Don't get anything that is not a pascal laptop. The performance jump from something like a 960m to a 1060 mobile pascal is quite a bit large in fact if you consider the 960m is worst than a 950 desktop but the 1060 is roughly on par with a 980 desktop. That's like several tiers of performance over previous gen laptops this is a really strong case of waiting for pascal laptops to be more popular they're just way way better.

Just walk around with a big external battery or ensure you are near a plug if you want to take that beast out :P

Hey it's a gaming laptop: this is what you're getting into regardless. There's not too much difference (imho) between 2 hours of battery and 30 minutes of battery. Unless you can have like 5 or 6 hours you realistically only need the battery to move to a new wall outlet.

Looks like I'll have to wait for when CPUs and GPUs use carbon nanotubes then.

I'd like to disagree but considering how the best solution to portable VR right now, as we can see in the main tech news forum, it's a stupid backpack, you probably need to wait that long for true portable gaming yeah.
