Hi,

I'm building a PC from all used parts: 3570k, Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4 rev. 1.0, Corsair TX650W power supply, 2x8GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 RAM, some Gigabyte variant of the 660Ti.

When I start the computer, all the fans start spinning. However they stop after about 15 seconds and then start up again. Repeat forever. There is no beep or video output.

I tried changing the PSU, GPU, RAM, no change.

Please help and please feel free to point out all the stupid mistakes I probably made. This is my first build. Thanks!

You should check that your psu connectors are all plugged in correctly. Also if you have one of those tiny speakers that could help you.

I think I plugged in everything. The 24pin, the 8 pin at the CPU and two 6pins into the GPU. Did I miss anything?

I'm not sure what you mean with speakers. I plugged in my headphones to check if there was a sound during startup, but no.

I tried that. Same thing. And the motherboard doesn't have any display ports whatsoever.

Get an onboard speaker from somewhere if you dont have one. Cant be more than a dollar or 2. Plug it in and check if it beeps.

Okay so what i think is the problem is that you need a new BIOS update so it can work with the ivy Bridge cpu(Core i3-3570k).

That sounds promising. How do I do that? From what I see on their website I need to run a program. But how can I run a program?

The motherboard's BIOS may not be new enough to use the CPU. If so, you need to update it, which usually means you need a CPU that the BIOS does support (Like a cheap 1155 Pentium or celeron.)

Main Gaming Rig:

Spoiler

Core i7-4770, Cryorig M9i Cooler, ASUS B85M GAMER, 8GB HyperX Fury Red 2x4GB 1866MHz, KFA2 GTX 970 Infin8 Black Edition "4GB", 1TB Seagate SSHD, 256GB Crucial m4 SSD, 60GB Corsair SSD for Kerbal and game servers, Thermaltake Core V21 Case, EVGA SuperNOVA 650W G2.

Secondary PC:

Spoiler

i5-2500k OCed, Raijintek Themis, Intel Z77GA-70K, 8GB HyperX Genesis in grey, GTX 750 Ti, Gamemax Falcon case.

You need a CPU that will work, like a cheap LGA 1155 Pentium or Celeron.

Make sure it's on the compatibility list.

Ok, thanks. That sucks. I will find something on Ebay. Two questions though:

Do you think I am able update the BIOS with a new CPU even though I've never dabbled around in the BIOS before?

Is what I describe in the original post consistent with this being the only problem? I thought that the BIOS would run even with no CPU installed.

No, BIOS needs the CPU. Basically all motherboards need a compatible CPU in them in order to update the BIOS. Especially on intel chipsets where the iGPU is on the CPU.

Thanks. My question wasn't worded very well: If I get a Sandy Bridge CPU: How hard is it to update the BIOS without having done anything like that before? I don't want to buy another CPU just to find I am not experienced enough to do it.

I managed to update the BIOS quite easily on my Intel Motherboard that was Socket 1155. You can generally do it with a memory stick and the BIOS file.

The program to run would be F7 from http://www.gigabyte.de/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3648#bios , right?

Seems like the right thing. For my motherboard, it was just a matter of pressing F7 on boot and going to the .BIO file on the USB stick.

REPOST:

Sorry to say but your motherboard is not compatible with the 3570k, i suggest you buying a new motherboard i did find one on amazon for $40.

Does you reposting mean that there is no way to update the BIOS to work with the 3570k?
