My gpu doesn't downclock. It's core clock is at 1607 MHz when idle and it just doesn't go down. It kind of works when I install another driver version but then the problem rises again when I boot my pc up again. I've tried to turn my power management mode to adaptive and optimal power but neither worked.

System stuff: Gtx 1080 FE, windows 10 Home 64bit v.1607, I'm currently using 372.70 version of the driver.

What display are you using? and what software to measure the clocks are u using it might just be that the clock is rapidly going form idle, to 1607 and when you have a 4K monitor or something like that its just intensive to draw everything on the screen :)

and yea the drivers could also optimize it in the future

ASUS Maximus VII Hero | i7 4790K OC 4.8GHZ | 4x8GB 2400MHz MSI GTX 1070 alphacool eiswolf gpx pro
Samsung 850 EVO 520GB + Corsair 525gb + 275gb SSD  2TB Seagate Barracuda | 8TB Seagate Archive

Cooler Master HAF-X 942 | EVGA Supernova 1000W 80+ Platinum | Custom watercooling loop (gpu+cpu)

Settings - Energie Management - on the right side should be a couple of Presets. Choose one looks like balanced not powersave.

Normally you have 4 kinds of presets.

  • Something which means Power all the time
  • Something which means Balanced. Power if needed, if not pc could idle and slowdown
  • Something which means powersave. Always try do do it with a low amount of power
  • Something which means max powersave. Means do it with the lowest state of power if possible, always try to sleep and so on.

Most games work well with balanced. But some have indiegames which comsume a very tiny amount of power could make problems. For example if you play tetris, you processor goes from 4ghz to 2gz to 1gh to 600mhz to 100mhz and at 100your gabe stucks for a second so your pc power up to 1ghz... slow down to 600mhz so 100mhz and second stuck ... and so on. For this kind of games you could define an energie state yourself with name "A little Power" an set cpu min mhz to 1,5 ghz so never goes down this. If you dont want to touch the settings choose for this kind of games highest Powermode most "High Performance".

Hope this helps.
