So just a bit of backstory, my sister wants a computer capable of editing/rendering videos often, and I was going to use my current GTX 780 Ti in her build, however, I am curious if a GTX 970 would be a better choice as it has more VRAM.

As it stands, I know my 780 Ti outperforms 970's in games that don't utilize more than 3 GB of VRAM, because the chip itself is faster, but would a faster chip or more VRAM be more beneficial to video rendering?

What program?

It won't make a big difference as most programs are limited by the cpu, not gpu.

I use about 600mb or vram with 1080p video, so you don't use that much vram.

Adobe Premier, it's got a video encoding option that's got cuda accelerated rendering or something, not quite sure as I've only ever rendered one video myself.

Its mainly cpu limited in most cases. You will notice no difference between the cards(less than 5%), so pick your favorite card and give her the one you don't want.

Ah thanks, I'll be selling my 780 Ti here then likely in the next week as I have just earned enough for a 1080.
