I've got 24x 5TB drives in a RAID 10 for ~55TB of usable space with a 10Gb uplink into the network as well. Might be overkill to a lot of people but I'm already at 40% capacity since it's my central server for everything and also a backup location for me and my parents. Of course I back up all the important stuff not only to that server but then from there to Crashplan.
