how much are the K553pro?

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

I think they're about $170. I've been keeping them as an option in the back of my head, but I'm going to be using them mainly for music listening rather than monitoring, and I think the AKG's might be a little too neutral for me.

oh those are not neutral, they have a bass boost and a fairly balanced sound overall, they are nothing like the K612pro.

hmm, I had only heard that they were really neutral. Do you have any experience with the Shure pair?

I think those people are mixing them up with the k612 oh well. The Shure are pretty good and are used in studio environments. I think that you need to figur out what kind of sound you want/like, then it would be easier to find the perfect ones for you.

I agree with you, it seems like a good fit for the OP, I was gonna suggest the Sony MDR-7506, heard it been described as 'neutral' and 'balanced' with a slight bass boost. Figured it must have something good going for it since it's been around for some 20 odd years now. But, I didn't wanna be called a 'shitposter'.....Closed back cans is always tougher to choose from since choices are pretty limited, even in the mid to high end ones (relative to open back cans).

Man! Closed back is the deal breaker. Philips SHP 9500 all FTW! They sound "just right", on the warmer side of neutral. 

 

I am gonna say M40x because that headphone has a solid reputation, as much as people dislike the M50x. 

 

Or perhaps the Brainwavz HM5.
