I'm conflicted between these two drives. Both are roughly close in price and both are 1TB blues. The differences are that one can be picked up at a Frys electronics and the other has to be shipped online. Other differences are that the Amazon one has 64mb of cache vs 32mb and I have $15 worth of gift card credits to bring the price down a bit. Also retail vs bare drive.

Model: WD10EZEX

Price: $64.65 ($49.65)

Model: WDBH2D0010HNC-NRSN

Price: $69.99

I assume actual performance between WD blue drives aren't that different. The Amazon one with double the cache and "discount" with the gift cards seems compelling. The thing is, the last HDD I ordered online arrived DOA after waiting days so I'm a bit paranoid. AAAAAAA

Which would you prefer to get, LTT? A drive online with double cache/a bit cheaper, but risk arriving DOA after days of waiting or spending a bit more for a drive with half the cache, but it's local pick-up in a retail package?

@mgsstar Thanks for finding that same model on Frys, can't believe I missed it.

---------------------------------------

Which 1TB WD Blue (model:WD10EZEX) should I pick up?  One is available as an in-store pickup at my local Frys electronics for $5 more than it would cost to have it delivered from Amazon. If I go Amazon, I can utilize $15 worth of gift cards to drop the price down, but since my last online ordered arrived DOA, I'm a bit paranoid. If I go with Frys, the drive is available at the store for pick-up. Less bouncing around transit to risk getting damaged, but I lose the 15 dollar "discount".

Amazon. Bare drive doesn't matter, just means no pretty packaging. Also the Amazon has a larger cache. Also it looks like its free shipping on prime.

I would just get a Seagate Barracuda 1TB because it is faster imo and around the same price. But if I had a choice, I would go with the Amazon one since it is cheaper. For the bare drive, be sure that you have a sata cable as it doesn't come with one.

I just sent back a Seagate Barracuda 1TB for arriving DOA. :P

This is why I decided on a WD blue and whether or not to trust online once more for a HDD or pick-up locally. Also have several cables around so the fact the drive is bare isn't an issue. Just a bit paranoid of the post killing something again.

Frys has the amazon one for $5 more so I would get it at Frys if you want fast exchanges: http://www.frys.com/product/7332134
