I am wondering if investing in Powerline will be more benifitial then using the current wifi from an extended router.  The video that was posted on NCIX Tech Tips was helpful but I wonder if the technology has changed.

It's highly dependent on the wiring of your house. If you're willing to do research I'd suggest routing ethernet through the walls for access points and drop locations.

I highly suggest you to run ethernet wire, even it is ugly.

 

I had the 500Mbps powerline kit, I am imagining it can at least reach 100Mbps stable. In fact, it only can reach 20-30Mbps, even only 5 meters distance. It is highly impacted how is your home is wired, any RCD installed, and anything that uses powers. I found that something using adaptors, such as PCs, TVs, doesn't decrease the speed, but some TL lights, motors, might affect it.
