Hello

So a very helpful user gave me this:

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/fGLQ6X

as a suggestion for my PC build.

My use for this PC will not include gaming but will be limited to video editing and streaming from a console via an Elgato HD60s.

My question to you is, is there anything you would change, if so, what and why?

Thank you in advance for helping!

Im relatively new to the world of PC building.  The device I am using to stream requires an i7 for flawless 1080p 60fps which is what I want from my streams.  How would you recommend I go about this?

More importantly, how advanced is the level of video editing you will be doing?

I use sony vegas platinum right now, but Im hoping to continue editing for some time.  I mostly edit my YouTube videos and if I do manage to grow that channel my editing needs will increase as well.  Right now Im very limited at slight transitions, cuts fades etc.  Beginning level stuff.

what is the difference between an matx build and an atx build? I could google it but I was hoping maybe you could clarify.  Also if at all possible with this build Id like some sort of a glass side panel? Also my build for my setup is mainly black and white so thats why my parts in the other build were those colors.

mATX or Micro ATX is just ATX that is smaller. Performance wise nothing is different usually, other than the mATX will have less expansion slots. So you wont be able to install a ridiculous amount of GPUs etc.

I liked your build, sure its more than you probably need at the moment, but it should be good for all your editing needs even as you get into more advanced work. And you can install more memory later on when you need it.

i want a completed setup by october, do you think kaby will be worth the wait?

Desktop Kaby lake probably isn't going to be here until early 2017, and its unlikely to be leaps and bounds over skylake performance. You can wait if you want, but there isn't really any need if you don't need "best of the best"

So you think I should go with the more expensive build I mentioned earlier http://pcpartpicker.com/list/fGLQ6X as opposed to this one http://pcpartpicker.com/list/RW8dHN ? Also if you dont mind answering a few more questions - Is that the only limit of an mATX? Just that I wont be able to install more GPUs? Since I dont expect to install more than one gpu, it shouldnt matter to me at all then? Are there any other limits?  Is there a limit on memory or anything of that sort? Personally I wouldn't mind saving money if possible, but I dont want a device that will require me to change it up sooner than later.  Also should I wait for next gen processors?

We can expect to see 5% or a bit more or less performance difference with Kaby Lake, based on what we have seen with previous few generations.

However, Kaby Lake will be the final architectural change before a process shrink. What this means is that the Kaby Lake motherboards and chipsets will be compatible with the next 10nm cannonlake CPUs.

Also, doesn't that mean that when Kaby Lake comes out, the Skylake i7 I am looking at right now will drop in price? Sorry for so many questions, again I am quite new to this.

The only limitations of mATX or mITX compared to ATX is what they can physically fit on the board. all those terms mean is the physical size of the board. Smaller boards tend to have fewer features simply because more won't fit (but that isn't always the case). Whatever any individual company can shove into the available space is completely up to them and how much they are willing to spend to make it. Memory is limited to 16GB per dimm with most DDR4 motherboards, so if your motherboard has 2 dimm slots you get 32GB, 4 dimms is 64GB, and so on. Chipset is more important than motherboard form factor, but many people don't really need things like RAID or SLI/CF support, or other 'fluff' that comes with the more expensive chipsets.

Personally I would have gone with the original build you posted. Not because you absolutely need it, but It gives you more headroom in case you do find yourself getting into more advanced video editing work. But It really depends on how much you want to spend. If the extra cost isn't that much to you, then its worth considering. If you want to save money, the latter build is all youll need for now.

Assuming the mATX board you choose has 4 memory slots and is running the same chipset, then yes, the only difference between mATX and ATX is the number of expansion slots. Expansion slots can be used for many things, like networks adapters, USB port expansion, and so on. The only advantage of mATX really is the size, it is smaller than ATX. If you dont care about size then I would go for ATX since the cost will usually be around the same.

Yes it possibly will drop in price, but i doubt it will by much. Since performance wise Kaby Lake isnt expected to be much better than Skylake at all.

The only advantage to Kaby Lake platform will be that the motherboard and chipset will still be supported on the Cannonlake CPU coming out late 2017.

Quite honestly, I originally planned to purchase the original build that I posted.  I was actually adding the items to my cart when I decided that I would ask around just to see if everything that was on the list was good as I'm not to informed on the products.  I was blindly going off of another posters suggestions so having someone else back it, would make me more comfortable and that is what I was hoping for.  I don't really care if its big, as I plan for it to sit under my desk.  I don't really have any other place for it.  Now my budget is somewhere right around the first build.  However would you change anything about the first build?

My personal brand preferences aside, i wouldn't change anything i think it looks good. The white and black theme should go great and that is a beautiful SSD.

Well, if you plan to overclock and think that is going to be fun on its own then the first build will be fine. However with the needs and requirements of your rig, you don't really need an overclocked build. the performance difference between a 6700k at 4.6 and a 6700 and 4.0 isn't really going to be that significant (video render times will be cut down by about 7-10%). Overclocking has its place, and its certainly fun for those who are into that sort of thing, but its not always practical nor is it for everyone. Also it doesn't come with a lot of mass storage. Streaming and video editing storage requirements can pile up very quickly so its good to have more room than you think you may need.

I'm in the process of throwing together a build for you if you wan wait a few minutes before pulling the trigger.

Sure Ill deff wait.  I need all the advice I can get.  Id love to look at it from all different angles before making the decision.  Also I dont plan on initially overclocking at all.  Id have to look up videos on how to do it and learn more about it before decided whether or not I want to do it.  Right now I dont really mind waiting a bit while a video renders.  I just dont want to be feeling like I didn't future proof my rig and am left with an inevitable change in the near future.

That is a good build for your needs. You can save money by getting a smaller motherboard, but your last comment made me get you a bigger and better one (has more expansion slots, USB 3.1, USB type C, better audio quality, and so on). You could save about 60 dollars by getting a cheap H110 board if you don't care about features like that.

You could also save money by getting less mass storage if you don't think you need 4TB. each TB you take off can save you about 20 bucks on that model of HDD.

Your case is good for how little it costs (not the best case in the world, but its arguably the best $30 case in the world, as its normally about twice that price). You can get it in black or white, and with or without a side window as you wish.

Everything else should be bought pretty much as is. Of course, that is just a recommendation. You should get whatever you want to spend your money on =)

Ok, again bare this in mind as you reply, I am not too informed on these matters and thus I apologize in advance for any novice questions.  I was able to add all the products to my cart from my previous build and it comes out to about 150 USD difference in price from the build you provided.  Do you think that the difference in the PC components would justify spending the extra 150 for the original build I posted.  Also if not, could you briefly explain why you chose those specific products, so I can make a more informed decision.  Thank you again!

The build Zyndo posted basically opts for the non overclocking version of the i7. So you save money on a non overclockable motherboard and non overclockable cpu chip. Then there is the 4TB hard drive as apposed to the 1TB you originally had, which you can change depending on how much storage you think you will realistically need.  And it has 8GB of memory as apposed to 16GB.

I personally don't believe I will need 4 as I have a 1tb external that I was for storage right now.  Say I cut it down to 1TB as opposed to 4 and change the RAM to 16 as opposed to 8, is there no other difference between the two builds other than the i7?  I dont plan on overclocking as I mentioned earlier, so would this build be better for me, if there are no other differences? Also I do plan on using USB 3.0 as my capture card requires that connection for better quality streams.
