Sadly can't see the list, but what is your screenresolution and ammount of screens? Helps for deciding your GPU..

If it's only gaming and some recording I think you could better go for the skylake platform with the 6700K for CPU. The higher speed helps good with gaming and because hyperthreaded CPU some workload is good doable and might give better results then the X99 platform if that was the 6 core you are talking about.

Asuming you use the case mentioned there is no need to mini ATX size card, but the 1070 card is good enough according to reviews but pretty loud. A normal size aftermarket 1070 could be a better option then this 1070.

But why you want that specific cooler? Overall there are way more efficient and more silent coolers for similar prices or a small extra. Not saying that it performs bad or whatever, but your case does support bigger ones.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.

I have tried to find and spend a Budget of $900 but if you shop around and use price comparison plugins you can find the parts cheaper I am sure.

The Biggest questions I have as I can't see the list is what is your Budget? and what Chipset are you looking for Intel or AMD?

What I have here is an AMD Build that I personally think is a fairly solid gaming build if you are looking for an Intel Build then I would look at Gonio's response above...

Hey sorry I'm late getting back to this I was out and about running errands. To answer your questions to better help. I will be gaming and recording on this on windows and I'm also going to run linux on it to do some other things (nothing major, I do all my editing on a Mac).

So primary use is gaming. I'm hoping in the future I will be able to afford and HTC Vive for it.

I currently have a 1080p dell monitor, but I plan to step up to a 4k monitor for it once I can afford it after building the monitor. I plan to use the dell as a second screen though to be able to see all my recording software and make sure it is running correctly (I'll be monitoring live stream quality when needed from my Macbook Pro)

I'll look into that CPU, I may have already looked at it but didn't know if it was going to be the better choice between that and the Haswell I picked.

the mini 1070 was an idea from pc part picker (browsing for some base ideas) I don't know if I want a 1070 or just invest the extra money for a 1080

I'm open to any cooler I just want it compatible with the case I picked and I want to avoid liquid cooling if I can (due to this being my first build and I don't want to mess it up). If I can get a better cooler for a good price then I'll definitely go for that over the one I currently have selected.

Hopefully others can develop and edit this list accordingly.

I would like to stay around the $1500 range for the parts with maybe some flexibility, but I feel I could make my build significantly cheaper without compromising ability to play.

I added the other parts individually, but I am going to make that list because I used the site as a reference from what I saw, but I haven't set my build up or even made an account with them yet.

Ok well I have Edited the Parts list - kept much of it the same - but as I found out we have a $1500 Budget - I managed to add some peripherals like Razer Gaming keyboard and mouse and changed a couple of important things like the RAM and such to better suit the budget - you can find the link to the list here by revealing the spoiler

Once again though it is personal preference and taste... and I hope someone offers an Intel based solution for your needs too so you can choose between them.

You can always remove the Monitor if you don't need it reducing the cost by $179 from the given price giving you a fair bit of money to splash out on other bits.

The keyboard and Mouse, - well there are cheaper options for gaming accessories out there - you can also look into Corsair equipment to save you about $50 from that angle...

Unless you plan to drop your MAC for the editing in the near future, but as I read it you will only game and record. Then the 6700K is better for your situation. More cores is in this case not more performance for you. Also your combination of parts won't work. So save your money then for other wanted parts.

You mix a 5820K with a Z170 mobo. They are different platforms. For the 5820K you need the x99 platform boards. The 6700K is placeable on the selected mobo.

Since you plan to go 4k a 1080 is the way to go. You need the GPU power for good performance then. You can save money by taking a lower W PSU then the 850W. Taking a 500-650 W range is more then plenty already for your requirements.

For the cooler might have an very good and efficient option: Scythe Fuma. Only thing to consider is if you have high profile RAM that might get in the way, but you have different types in your picks. The Geil Evo might be in the way, but the GSkill would work I think. To be sure you could go for a normal profile or low profile (LP) kit. Anyway there are options there to find somehting that fits your color and demands. For the RAM, you can stick around the 2400 speed RAM and save the money for your 1080. Higher speed RAM is no real factor in these builds.

Thank you all for the input! I'll definitely have a lot to think about working with my original build and the other two to see what will be best for me. Thank you for all of the advice as well on parts that might be better for what I want to do. I'll probably be asking more questions as I go so that this build is perfect for me. Also because of the time of year I don't know if it might be worth waiting until Black Friday/Cyber Monday to get my parts. Would that be a good idea or do parts hardly ever go on sale?

Thank you all for the input! I'll definitely have a lot to think about working with my original build and the other two to see what will be best for me. Thank you for all of the advice as well on parts that might be better for what I want to do. I'll probably be asking more questions as I go so that this build is perfect for me. Also because of the time of year I don't know if it might be worth waiting until Black Friday/Cyber Monday to get my parts. Would that be a good idea or do parts hardly ever go on sale?

If you can wait, pick your parts in a "final" manner.  Don't buy; watch the market.  Follow pricing trends and if you see a deal, jump on it.  Deals happen all year round.
