The 1060 6GB does really well at this, the 1060 in my brother's PC will get above 60fps in Dark Soul 3. They are sadly kind of overpriced at the moment (You want to get one for less than $300...).

Perhaps a used GTX 980ti. Otherwise, see what performance is important to you:

DOOM will run great on an RX 480 or GTX 1060, but the other games you mention are more demanding, if you want to turn the graphics settings up. Witcher 3 will be fine on a GTX 1060 without Hairworks enabled. But for Hairworks, you'll need a GTX 1070 to get 60 FPS at 1080p, max settings.

The 970, 980 or 980 TI would all be sufficient. The new 10 series would also be well suited. However since you want the cheapest card I would look at the 970 or even the 960 (4gb variant). :D These would both perform well within your expectations and needs.

This would be a great option if you are willing to spend this money as it will help future proof your PC at the same time. 9_9

Yeah, sorry, meant to say the game was Dark Souls 3. I mixed it up with the Witcher 3 (Which is quite a bit more demanding if I remember right)...I'm not the gamer in the family for a reason (Brother is). haha.

I'd say you can go for a used 780 or even a 780ti. Great performance at a great price. You could also wait for the 3 GB version of the 1060. The games will run smoothly even if it's an older card.

The 1060 would outperform the 780 and the 780 TI though wouldn't it? It has a lot of power especially if you go a bit further for the 6gb variant. :D

You are right, but since he is looking for a cheap one, the 780Ti can be $100 cheaper than the 6GB 1060.

However if you do have the budget for it 10/10 go for the 1060 for better future proofing. The 780 TI is a solid card but may not last long especially with all the new power cards being released at the moment. 9_9

1060, at 1080p in will run almost anything.

BUT

the RX470 stands at a better price point.

They definitely need it Intel and Nvidia are smashing AMD at the moment. AMD needs the Zen release to be a success to stay in the major league of the silicon race. :D

I was thinking about a RX470 over the 1060 as its waaaaay cheaper.

But just make sure you know the price to performance difference. If it is minimal then it will be ok otherwise it may not be worth it from the 1060. :D

We all need Zen, for it will help us establish our inner spiritual balance and will stir up the competition, putting an end to this terrible dark era of high prices brought on by the too long uncontested Nvidia and Intel.

Excellent summary of the silicon war. Which is being dominated by Intel and Nvidia. AMD has to make a new entry with Zen and it could be one of their last real chances to steal the market. :D
