I am planning to build a small hackintosh in the mini itx form factor. I am putting together a parts list over on pcpartpicker. The build that I have so far comes in at 152 watts. I want to keep the build small so that I can easily fit the PC on my desk without sacrificing much space. Due to size constraints I am interested in the picoPSU-160-XT, which as the name suggests is 160 watts. It also delivers 200 watt peak power, what ever that means. I want to use the i5 6600K in the build, and most likely perform a small overclock. So my question is, with a system that draws 152 watts, and with plans to overclock slightly, is a 160 watt power supply, specifically the picoPSU-160-XT, going to be enough? Please forgive me if this is like a lame question but I am really not sure so I just want to pool the knowledge of you experts here... Thanks

200W is much better. Also, I'd suggest getting a Cryorig C7 CPU cooler instead of a L9i since it cools a little better, looks a lot better, and costs a little less.

MSI GE72 Apache Pro-242 - (5700HQ : 970M : 16gb RAM : 17.3" : Win10 : 1TB HDD : Razer Anansi : Some mouse) - hooked up to a 34UM58-P (WFHD) in dual screen

iPad Air 2 (for school)

iPhone 6

Xbox One Forza 6 Limited Edition Blue

Do you know of a 200W PSU solution which is of the external type? The motivating factor for the PICO is the fact that the PSU is external. I'll do a google search now and see if I can find something that fits that bill. Thanks for the pointers I really appreciate it.

Not the biggest expert myself but I am pretty sure that pcpartpicker uses estimated max wattage. I also think the PSU will be fine, this amazon review is by someone with a similar build and they had no real issues. https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R1VAS2W131Y6AC/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B005TWE6B8

Wow, thanks for digging that up for me. That is literally like the same exact build as what I am planning. This is very helpful. Thanks

Sorry, I'm not aware of any specific models. :P Google will help and I'm guessing someone on the forum will see this post and know, good luck with the build tho!

I am about ready to pull the trigger on ordering parts for this hackintosh build. I like the look of the cooler the you recommended, the Cryorig C7. I have switched up my original plan and decided to go with a cube style mini itx case instead of the super tiny style htpc case. The main reason for this is so that I can use a real PSU instead of the little 160 watt laptop power supply.

My question for you, or anyone else with any experience with this Cryorig C7 CPU cooler is, do you think this cooler is up to the task of keeping an overclocked i5 6600k cooled? The case that I decided to go with will accept a 120mm radiator. I am not a huge fan of water cooling, and prefer to stick with an air cooled CPU.

So do you think that the Cryorig C7 will be sufficient?

First off, I'm glad you went for at least a decent size ITX case. Your cool in potential is greatly improved. Also, that PSU is $69, and you can get a Rosewill PHOTON 550W for $65, it's gold rated and ONE HUNDRED PERCENT MODULAR. I know, Semi-Modular vs Modular won't make a difference in your case (not like the actual PC case, like your case) but it's $3 cheaper for a PSU that is better quality imho although I'm not sure about length.

For CPU coolers, if you really want to OC that i5, an AIO liquid cooler is your best bet. I mean, a Cryorig C1 would perform better than a C7 tho if you are going strictly air. However, the C1 is $65 while the C7 is $30. For overclocked loads, you'd need to do an AIO I would think. It'd probably be worth making a new thread in Air Cooling or the Liquid Cooling thread, or new builds and planning, to find someone with enough pre-existing knowledge of the case to know the best choice. But in my opinion, just getting a corsair H55 would be the best idea, or even like an H60 or H80i maybe.
