Hey Guys,

I've had my system for about 1 year and 8 months.

I have been having issues recently with it, My PC would randomly freeze and then I would get a BSOD with the error 'CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMER'.

After doing a bit of research I had found that maybe my cooling solution just wasn't cutting it.

(I have a stock cooler and I don't do any overclocking so at the time of building my PC I just kept the stock cooler and allocated more of my budget towards other components.)

So I installed OCCT to stress test my CPU and view temps.

As you can see in the GIF even my idle temps are not stable at all.c8b238dd8406916213aca5bce4dceb1b.gif

Sometimes even reaching up to 56°C 35d958e2dbada8ed1c3f116a1743dcdc.png

What do you guys think I should do? Is it a problem or is it normal?

Should I get a CPU cooler (I dont know which air cooler to get as I have Corsair Dominator Platinums and they arent compatible with all coolers)

Those max temps are fine, dare I say decent on a stock cooler. Usually you get BSOD from OC, but you said you are NOT so that is not it, but it could still be a voltage issue.

As far as new cooler, the Cryorig H7 has RAM clearance so even if you have ram in all 4 slots, it should fit. The Hyper Evo 212 is also another great choice at cheap effective air cooling options.

So, should i turn down my voltage slightly? or nah?

I dont think I want to spend extra money on a separate cooler if I dont have to!

yea. manually set your vcore to 1.2v and try it out. In regards to how the CPU temps look on OCCT, thats just how OCCT does its testing, it doesnt flatline it like Aida64 does. it will bounce around like that with OCCT.

I don't plan on overclocking my i7-6700k but I refuse to stick with the stock cooler. Lets be honest here, Intel's stock coolers are terrible. Well I didn't actually get a stock cooler with my CPU but even if I did I still wouldn't use it. The CoolerMaster Hyper 212x gives me a temperature of 50c at FULL LOAD and it is pretty quiet!

That makes 0 sense.... for starters, you bought a CPU unlocked for overclocking. Second, it doesn't come with a cooler so that you can buy a good one for OCing. And in fact, you bought the most popular one for OCing on a budget. Yet you don't plan on OCing?? Wha--!?

Anyhow, OP: aren't you forgetting something? Say, telling us your specs? We can't really try to help you if we don't even know what you have in that machine of yours.

It makes perfect sense since I got the i7-6700k from a computer shop that was closing down. I got it for literally half price so it beats any non-k CPU for that price.
