They don't plan on it. Remember not all games and software sup[port SLI/Crossfire. So if you desparately want Two GPUs the rx 480 would be your choice.

Nope. It's physically impossible because the card itself lacks SLI fingers.

Crossfire and SLI are both flawed for multiple reasons. It would be better to upgrade to a single, stronger GPU rather than have two weaker ones.

Everyone does and everyone regrets it. The few monies you save on getting the second card later, you waste many times over in the new PSU or by overmeasuring your PSU now and not fully utilizing it.

Just go all in at once. Get the best current gen card you can afford now and roll with for either two or four years. At the two-year mark there'll be some warranty left and it'll have actual re-sell value, at the four-year mark it'll be becoming obsolete regardless of what you use it for. There are a few games that scale somewhat well in SLI/CFX but they've always been a rarity so unless you're planning on playing such a game from now until the time you upgrade, there's no reason for SLI. And I do mean, SLI has it's place in this world, just not in average everyday home computing. A single strong GPU has always been and will always be the best choice for hopping from game to game over time.

Luckily this is a non-issue regarding GTX1060. They don't and won't ever support SLI. DX12 Multi-GPU is another matter but it's highly likely it won't turn out to be a reason to go for it either.

This is the reason I suggested that...

I have been running sli for several years. The truth is... it's better then most people think. Don't take words of people who don't utilize it on a daily basis.

As for the 1060, no. Nvidia has said many times they won't support standard sli on this iteration. You still have options, but they are not even worth discussing.

The real issue with Nvidia's choice is they basically tossed away half the sales of the 1060 over to amd because of the lack of support. It's extremely common to run a single low to mid grade card for a while then to purchase another a little while later. In fact, most of my clients do this. The get great gains in sli, and normally better performance then running a single card that was a step up. Take the 960's for example. I have sold so many it's unreal. However, most were to those who wanted to upgrade. They had to choose between a 970 and a 960. Most ended up with a single 960, then picked up another a little while later to spread out the cost a bit. They out perform a single 970 in absolutely every case we have tested.

So in short, sli has it's place. It has been incorperated in more and more titles as we move forward. The 1060 not supporting hurt my ability to sell the card so I don't even stock it at all. If you are in the budget and want sli/crossfire options then AMD is the only logical choice.

Maybe next time Nvidia won't make a card that's cheaper for 2 than a 1080 and outperforms a 1080. If they do that, we won't have this issue.

BTW, SLI is decent for gaming (and is getting better) but comes in handy far more for other situations outside of gaming.

I had SLI 970's in my system before I upgraded to a 1070. SLI/Crossfire is really overrated (or at least was). Extra heat from two hot GPUs sandwiched together, more power consumption and games these days are getting less and less SLI/Crossfire friendly. Most AAA titles these days are being developed for consoles and ported to the PC and obviously consoles don't have SLI/Crossfire.

I'd just use the money that you'd spend on two 1060s and get a 1070, then later on SLI them when they inevitably come down in price.

Always get the best single card you can.
