Hello, I was looking through eBay and I came across two SP3s that caught my attention. Spec wise both have i7, 256GB, 8GB RAM, and are running on Windows 10. One of the two has the SP3 type cover and pen, also comes with a dock ($750). The second has SP4 type cover and pen, also comes with a dock ($800). Between the two I want to lean for the $800 dollar one because I heard that SP4 stylus has less latency when writing. Not sure if this a myth or not, but what I'm most worried about is overpaying for a device that is last gen and will not help me in a couple of years. With $800 a lot of people can probably build a PC that out specs this and probably with cash to spare. If anyone can help, I'd highly appreciate it.

I heard Surface Pro's are not that great.

The Surface Pros are pretty good. Like any crossover device it does nothing best, but it does a pretty good job at everything.

I have the SP3 and for writing the latency isn't really an issue. The SP4 got some tech from Wacom (or some other similar company -- so the stylus is a bit better, but for writing it won't make a big difference).

In terms of specs, the SP4 (and even the SP3 for that matter) won't become useless any sooner than a Skylake-based SP5 would. So I wouldn't worry about that too much.

What is your purpose for this device?

Just some light note taking in class and I'll run some adobe programs. For the second one, only the accessories were pro 4.

Get the one with SP4 accessories, the keyboard and trackpad are vast improvements over the SP3! worth the $50.
