Ddosing

Guest

Is it possible to get ddos 2-4 a day every single day? Cause my modem keeps messing up for no reason, but I'm not sure if it is ddos. And 1 day the modem was messing up and lasted 5 hours.

Probably an issue with your modem or your ISP.

if you have a dynamic IP just unplug your router/modem then plug it back in.

if you dont you have to call your ISP and have them do it

Define modem messing up? Is it your internet slowing down? Does this happen around the same time of day when you notice it? After business hours is usually a hard on your ISP network since everyone is using their personal computers for streaming, downloading, etc. I doubt you are getting targeted for a ddos attack. A ddos group gains nothing taking down a residential customers service.

Run a speed test when your service is acting normally and screen shot it. Then when you notice your network slow down run another test and compair it to the first test. Hopefully this will help narrow down if this is ping related or bandwidth. Run all these tests directly plugged into the router.

Sorry by using the term "messing up" to describe your issue I assumed that the connection was still up but slow to the point of being unusable.

Call your ISP and inform them what your symptoms are. There are a ton of different things that could be causing network congestion on your modem: faulty coax connectors/splitters, congestion in the Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS), high network traffic, WiFi interference if you're using WiFi, bad CAT5 to your router, to just name a few.

In the highly unlikely event you are getting DDOSed, it's likely your modem has a DHCP reservation so unplugging it and restarting won't lease you a new IP address.

Your best bet is to call your ISP and have a trained technician come out and troubleshoot your side of the house. They can check the signal statistics on your modem to see what your DB is like and if it is a problem from the plant to your modem.

If it's an intermittent issue and really bothering you and you're not getting what you pay for from your ISP I would still highly recommend calling them to have a tech help you out. They can see if your DB is dropping in and out on your modem which is the most likely culprit IMO.

If it's not bothering you than let it slide and live and let live mate!
