I've been coming across this issue, and I'm curious exactly to what the cause is if anyone can send me some stuff to read. Basically, I've been overclocking my GPU, and I'm experiencing crashes after playing games for a bit (currently the BF1 beta). The crash I'm getting is basically my screen turns a solid color, and my PC is unresponsive (I think this is a driver crash). The thing is, my GPU is still relatively cool and quiet when this occurs, which indicates to me that it should able to be pushed even further based on what I've read. Is this just the limit of my card's capabilities, i.e., silicon lottery? It seems like many guides I read set thermals as one of the limiting factors, but I don't seem to be in that category which is why I'm confused.

I should also add that I've seen this kind of behavior before with BF4, where my other games seem to handle an OC just fine, but BF4 crashes my PC in the same way after a bit. Because of this, I reduced the OC a bit (which is partly why I'm trying again now), which that game seems to handle better. Is it normal to have different OC configs (limits) for different games? This is where most of my confusion lies: why does crashing only occur in a specific few games, when those are not the only demanding titles I play?

Anyways, I'm running an EVGA GTX 980 Superclocked ACX 2.0 @ 1520GHz

124% Power Target

+120Mhz GPU Clock Offset

+500Mhz Memory Clock Offset

+87mV (I increased this a couple days ago to try and improve stability)

Temps are about 70-72 C when the crash occurs, probably towards the lower end. I can't say for sure because there isn't a overdraw in-game, but based on the cards fan speeds, this seems to be it.

If it's not stable in all games then it's not a stable overclock. Happened a few times to me too so I just saved different overclocks for different games or just stuck with a moderate overclock.

Turn the overclock down. If it crashes,  you need to turn it down. Every card is different.
