My msi gtx 970 running full speed all the time what's going on?

Screen shots plz. Also,

  1. Do you have anything open? Games are an obvious one, but stuff like a video being played back could cause the boost due to hardware acceleration.
  2. Do you have multiple monitors? That's another common cause for running full speed.
  3. Did you set your power preference in Nvidia's control panel to Maximum Performance? Change it to Adaptive if it's not already at that option.

That's probably the reason. Having a second monitor plugged is known to cause high idle clocks.

Not that that's an actual problem, though.

What happenes is i was trying to overclock my gpu and my computer crash as my overclock failed and then this happened, and i just took a look at my ram's frequency in bios and they downgraded from 2400 mhz to 1333 mhz, i set my settings for my ram back to normal, it think it was only a crash. and should you change ur power mode in nvidia to "prefer maximum performance" for gaming?

Multiple monitors being plugged into your GPU will cause the clocks to run higher. Also, if your running higher than the standard 60hz refresh rate that will cause clocks to run high as well. Right now i have 2 monitors hooked up, 1 on D-DVI at 144hz and 1 on HDMI 60hz and my 1070 core clocks are at 1126. This is likely what is causing it.

You need Prefer Maximum Performance because what will happen is your GPU usage will go crazy and cause stutter and in-game issues.

I heard that you need to change power mode to maximum power for gaming is it true?

Yes. If you dont, then your GPU usage will be all over the place and will cause in-game issues like stuttering, massive FPS drops etc...

Leave it on all the time. It will not affect your GPU's core clock or anything when at idle or meaningless tasks like browsing the web.

Is there anything else i need to keep it on that affect gaming performance? power options? like balanced and high performance? because im new to gaming so  everything is important to me to say, every detail if possible

Nah, Unless your on a laptop, which obviously you're not, the system power profile will not affect your gaming profile. All you need to do is set prefer maximum and you're set and should have no further issues.

Not sure tbh, I dont use the MSI Gaming APP personally even though I do have an MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X.

Is there any program you use to update your motherboard drivers?

I do all my driver updates manually. I don't trust software levels like live update etc to do it.
