System build with older PSU

Go to solution Solved by STRMfrmXMN,

Ultra has like one series of PSUs that doesn't suck. I'd replace your PSU. You don't need to spend an arm and a leg since you have a 470 and it's heat-light and doesn't need lots of power. Honestly, an EVGA 600B or Corsair CX500M would do, though if you want a super solid PSU for your system then an EVGA GQ/B2/GS/G2 will do. The 550W version of the GS and G2 are fine, the 650W of the GQ, and the 750B2.

Hello all,

I just updated a bunch of components in my old case and now with a load on the GPU the system just shuts off and reboots.  I cannot find an 8pin PCIe connector for the new GPU, I first tried just the 6pin but I know that's way under power I think 75W, then I tried the Y cable 2 x 4 pin molex to an 8 pin PCIe from Startech and it also did the same.  I am pretty sure its PSU but wanted to pass along for thoughts.

PSU - Ultra X3 1000W

Core i5 6500

MSI B150M VD

MSI Radeon RX 470 4GB

The rig is solid if I don't go into any higher games ie Far Cry 3 but I can play Civilization 5 without issue for hours.  Looking on MSI's site the card says it draws 110W.

Thanks all.

J
