I recently purchased a sapphire rx 480 nitro, I have had a bit of a Frankenstein PC for the last few weeks as parts have been slow to arrive. I had my memory, AMD APU, MOBO, PSU, Case and Stock Cooler. The PSU is at 500 watts, as it is the recommended wattage for the GPU. Before the GPU was installed, I was able to  get the system to post successfully, but once I installed a GPU, a HDD and some new case fans it would no longer post. When I took out the 8 pin power connector, it was able to post again. I don't have an OS at the moment, as I am waiting for the SSD to arrive.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Probable reason: very bad psu (not all 500w psus are enough for a needy graphics card... you should allways buy a reasonably good brand and with 80plus certification)

but we need specs to be helpfull... brands and models preferably

Try setting the graphics output to auto if you can in the BIOS. And make sure you're plugging in your video output cable only to the RX 480 after making that change.

CPU: i7 4770K  |  Corsair H80i  |  ASUS Z87-Pro  |  8GB Corsair 1866Mhz  |  GPU: MSI Gaming X RX 480 8GB  |  Corsair HX  750

I tried that but it still didn't post. the fans are turning on but nothing will show on the screen, even if i use the MOBO's HDMI port

I have the A10-7890k and the MOBO is the Gigabyte F2A68HM-HD2, the gpu is installed in the top slot, and i can't update the bios as i don't have an os

Do you not have another computer?  Bios updates do not require OS, just need a usb thumb drive for most boards now that floppy drives are dead.

There's something cool here - you just can't see it.
