will moving my program files cause problems with my computer

I want free space in my hard-drive and nat have all my files rely on one drive, so if I move my files from C/ to D/ will this cause problems. I have thing like photoshop and other important software i want safe so please help

 

pretty sure hardware does not need to be listed and my OS is windows 10

yes, programs have dedicated file locations from which they "read" info. You can move them but then also change/edit the path

You'll need to reinstall the software since you'd be messing with the paths.  Simply moving the software might mess with it depending on how much it integrates with your registry.

You can leave the program on one drives and projects on another.

The smarter way to do something like this would be to set up a junction point in Windows. What a junction point allows you to do is retain the path, but change the file location. You can do it natively through Windows, but I find that to be a pain in the ass. I use a program called Symlink Creator.

 

I haven't tried it with the program files specifically, but I've used it to move small prefetch files and such that don't normally like moving.
