Headphone Battle

Go to solution Solved by kokakolia,

Just get the Bose. Some people have a knee-jerk reaction to Bose. But their noise-cancelling headphones are a joy to use as they're super comfy and isolate so well. And they leave little to complain about with the sound. The Momentum isn't nearly as comfy. The earpads are smaller.

At home, I just want to wear open-back headphones or listen to my cheapo computer speakers as they're way more enjoyable.

I wanted to upgrade to some nice quality over the ear headphones with a price range of $350. I have decided to check out what I hear everyone talking about recently, the Bose QuietComfort 35. However, after some quick research I see a lot of people recommending Sennheiser headphones over Bose. So whats better, something like the Bose QuietComfort 35, or some Sennheiser headphones in the $350 price range (a popular model I found is the Sennheiser HD 598).

What I'm really looking for:

1.Quality vs. price

2.Quality of the audio to just be generally high (if I am to spend $350 I want the audio to sound better than some $15 headphones)

3.Noise cancelling is a nice bonus as I would need to wear these when I commute (and my commute is noisy to say the least)

Bonus: I've never owned Bluetooth headphones before, so though its not a mandatory thing, it would be a pleasant new experience.

Thanks for any advice given :D

If you want ANC, go Bose. No one does it better. However, ANC requires concessions on audio quality. This is just the nature of the technology.

Any thoughts on what you want from a headphone sound signature? That's probably the most important thing to figure out - e.g. not all headphones have a lot of bass, and so on.

These are wireless,

Over ear,

Comes in 5 colors,

Super bassination,

And supports 192/24 AAC over Bluetooth.

Honestly, if I'm understanding what you're asking, I would have to say I look more for a good amount of bass -mainly because the type of music I listen to greatly relies on bass to deliver the intended "feeling" I guess.I mainly need these headphones to listen to loud, thumpy,party-style music during my commute (early morning and evening) for a well-needed energy boost, I also tend to listen to this when I have to pull all-nighters to get work done. However, the headphones would also need to sound good for downtime when I listen to something like classical music.

Sound great, just don't have that noise cancellation I'm looking for. But they look like a really great option if all else fails, guess you can't have everything in a pair of headphones :P

If you want noise cancellation and wouldn't mind saving a few hundred $, I would suggest the MDRZX770BT. I own em and will listen to anything with em on any device that supports Bluetooth.

So how critical is the ANC? Do you regularly listen in a noisy environment?

I would say 99.9% of the time. I have to take a city bus in a very busy city and even in the early morning it is always nearly packed. Honestly if it isn't noise cancelling I am going to eventually destroy my ears with the intensity of the volume.

How about wireless? The QC25 is very good if you want to save money on that feature.

sounds like you would really benefit from the ANC.  That kind of droning hum like a bus or plane engine is what it's really best at I think.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

My friend bought a Sennheiser Momentum 2 BT and he was rather happy with it......but he's been all about ANC since he'd owned the QC15 and QC25 (sold the former, gave the latter to his wife). When the QC35 was made available in my neck of the woods, he gave the Momentum 2 to his son and bought himself the QC35, he's an audiophile, but is willing to sacrifice audio quality in favor of ANC....

As for OP, since he'd stated the overwhelming importance of ANC in the environment he's in, it's clear the QC35 (or QC25) would be more suited for his needs.

If you can deal with having a cable, then the QC25 would save you some money.....but it's really up to you. My friend had always wanted a BT ANC can, he tried the Momentum 2 BT even though it had no ANC, which meant that he'd listen with them at very high volume to drown out extraneous noise (I'd tried it at the level he'd listened to, and had to remove the Momentum within 5 seconds, yes, it was THAT loud).
