I7-6700K oc to 4.5

32 GB ram

asus gtx 1070  stock

maximus viii formula

 

So every time i play far cry primal after a certain amount of time screen will freeze and i can alt tab, open task manager, but the screen will remain black. Same happens on gta v. My settings are at high, which for a gtx 1070 should run without any problem. Would this point to a defective gpu?

Have you tried playing the games with no OC?

it's either overheating, not getting enough power from the PSU, driver problems, deflective hardware, OS problem etc

it's hard to tell without proper information, please give us temps, full specs and a smile favicon.png

also if possible try reinstalling the OS and drivers and see if that works... but before doing that please do what i said above^

cpu: i7-6700k

cooler: corsair h115i

case: phanteks enthoo primo

psu: evga supernova 1000 g2

gpu: asus strix gtx 1070

 

at the time of crash gpu was at 42 degrees 

 

my system is more than capable of running those games

Open GPU-Z and see what the limiting factor is. Remove OCs and see if it crashes first

gpu was never oc'ed running at stock so i shouldnt crash. whenever playing a game after 2-5 min in game my screen would freeze and id have to sign out and re sign in. pc is still responsive but it stays stuck on the pic it froze at, And its not over heating my temps hit a max of 51 celsius
