M.2 Drive Heat?

Go to solution Solved by Mira Yurizaki,

Oh. I'd say it shouldn't have a problem. My M.2 drive is sandwiched between the motherboard and case. And if the SMART data off it is correct, it seems to be sitting at a toasty 60C and I'm not experiencing any issues.

Quick question

how hot do PCI M.2 drives get, thinking about getting a hyper X predator M.2 instead of a standard 2.5 drive, to go with the X99 sabertooth, wondering if I could use the drive with the bay cover over the top of the drive as I plan to do some painting on the thermal armour, or would this cause thermal issues for the drive, google isn't helping me with this :P

Thanks

Paint does have a minor effect instead of bare metal, but it's small enough to not pull your hair over.

sorry, I meant painting the plastic cover on the motherboard, Sabertooth X99 has a "thermal armour" covering most of the front of the motherboard : https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_X99/ including the M.2 slot, it also comes with slot covers for all the board slots including RAM, PCI and even the SATA ports, want to use the cover over the M.2 drive, however this would reduce airflow to that drive.
