Pardon the terrible formating but I'm on mobile. I've heard that Pascal cards aren't the best overclockers but I expected more than 100 megahertz out of my new 1070 ftw edition. What gives? Bad luck of the draw?

The current FTW like all generations of the FTW, are close to maxed out already. From the several I have had the chance to review over the past few years, I never see any of them with a huge over clock.

So you may indeed have got a bit of "bad lottery luck", don't expect the FTW cards of any generation to be crazy on overclocking.

It boosts to about 2011 stable.

Typical OCs are 2000-2100MHz, so yours seems pretty normal to me.

Literally every Pascal card hard locks out between 2050 and 2100

Paying more for the FTW doesn't yield you a better OC than a cheaper model.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Well the FTW version is already factory overclocked a lot.

So if you had bought a cheaper version, you would have gotten maybe a 200 or 300MHz overclock and still ended up between 2000 and 2100MHz.

How many MHz you add on doesn't really matter, it is the end result that matters. You ended up with an average card, not bad at all, 2GHz is still great.

That is exactly right. The FTW is 95% maxed from EVGA. Which is why they call it that. It's more for those who don't want to hassle with OCing on their own.

Honestly never really considered that fact. Well, that and I was watching tutorials where people were getting upwards of 200 so I might have had the wrong expectations.

Where you see people putting like +200 on the clock these are pretty much factory standard cards with no factory OC . Where as FTW cards tend to be already at the limit as that's the selling point. My 1070 sea hawk is like 1530mhz standard then boost to 1714mhz that's out the box but before I even touch or do any OC it boosts all the way too 1987mhz. However when I start OC it will be stable at 2153mhz.

+60% Voltage

105% Power Limit

+125 Core

+500 Memory

  • 1 month later...

So as sort of a follow up I discovered that my card was equipped with a dual bios. Switched over and it apparently is the more performance oriented one because my power limit is now 122 as opposed to 112. Also, I'm staying at 2036 MHz and an extra 400 MHz on the ram.
