Hi guys!

I am buying new GPU + monitor for 144fps and no tearing. Mostly I play dota 2. My options are.

-rx 480 nitro oc 8gb (or) red devil +  G2460PF

or

-1060 windforce oc +  G2460PG

In my country there is no rx 480 4gb available. GPUs are in same price range. Difference in price is in monitors  G2460PG 483€ and  G2460PF 254€.

Would these two options perform close to 144fps at 1080p? Also if you have any suggestions on other monitors please post.

Thanks :)

A single 480 or 1060 is not enough horsepower to get you to 144 FPS even at 1080p without turning some grpahics settings down by quite a bit. That being said if you don't mind turning settings down then you should be fine.

Considering he mainly plays Dota 2, a 460 or 1060 are both going to get well above 144FPS. That, in turn, kind of makes GSync and Freesync pointless, as they're not going to be doing anything above the monitor's refresh rate anyway, it would just be normal VSync. Unless he caps the FPS below the monitor's refresh rate, adaptive refresh rate technology won't do anything.

@OP I'd advise considering how many more demanding games you play. For Dota 2, GSync and Freesync don't offer a huge benefit, as they'll deactivate unless you cap your FPS. If you have more games that you play that are more demanding, then it may still be worth going for an adaptive refresh rate monitor. If you're shorter on money, I'd advise going for FreeSync as it's typically better value and performs mostly the same as GSync.

Sorry, just woke up and didn't realize he said DOTA 2 mostly.... a 1060/480 would be more than enough for most MOBA style games out there.

As far as G-sync/freesync goes, I'm not 100% sure how they work (ie how to turn it on and off or whatever) but i do know that G-sync and freesync have reduced input lag times when compared to traditional Vsync, so there is still a good reason to have it, even if your refresh rate isn't changing.

Variable refresh rate tech like freesync and gsync only makes a difference if your fps fluctuates under the refresh rate of your monitor. Since dota 2 is pretty easy to run, both those graphics cards will be able to peg the fps at your monitors max refresh rate (144hz) meaning there is no point in using an adaptive refresh rate monitor.

If you play other more demanding games, then go for the freesync monitor + the rx 480, but if not then go with a normal 144hz monitor.

Might as well go for free-sync man, G-sync isn't worth the price increase

just check the free-sync range on the display

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

It's actually pretty heavily CPU limited past 60fps, need an i7 to really push it to 144fps
