Hi

Looking at getting back into PC gaming I've not had a gaming PC for about 6 years so looking to go relatively high spec.

I've currently got the below planned I wanted to know what people think of the build and also would you recommend any extra cooling?

Component   Selection Price
CPU e4ea560bf121c10aece449891f4d40b4.256p.jpg £293.88 Buy
CPU Cooler 356776b12b7cb2e8c1368bbba0858a81.med.256p.jpg £48.99 Buy
Motherboard 633b2c46648f446323583deb4202e2f2.256p.jpg £161.11 Buy
Memory cc405a0690229e3e56113ab1c64d9ce8.256p.jpg £74.99 Buy
Storage c3080e7c05ad8abee6ca41fea18545dd.256p.jpg £167.98 Buy
  cfae225dd3e43bf766ab1468189a4703.thumb.256p.jpg £45.78 Buy
Video Card no-image.png £608.99 Buy
Case 5486ba79b55a0b22ef56defea3c0eda6.256p.jpg £90.42 Buy
Power Supply c1e5718b3b35b89ff1e76d2b1a3ede04.256p.jpg

I'm not planning on getting the PC until later this year so I am looking at going for a Kabylake i7 with a z270 motherboard.

Any advice\recomendations appreciated.

If you are waiting until the end of the year, this build could be quite different, such as Vega will be out by then, "limited" supply of ZEN and Skylake and Z170 boards will be much cheaper.

This is a solid build, a bit much on the Mobo and you really don't need a 950 Pro, I'd favor a 500GB Sata 850 EVO over a NVME 950 Pro.

i7-6700k  Cooling: Deepcool Captain 240EX White GPU: GTX 1080Ti EVGA FTW3 Mobo: AsRock Z170 Extreme4 Case: Phanteks P400s TG Special Black/White PSU: EVGA 850w GQ Ram: 64GB (3200Mhz 16x4 Corsair Vengeance RGB) Storage 1x 1TB Seagate Barracuda 240GBSandisk SSDPlus, 480GB OCZ Trion 150, 1TB Crucial NVMe

why i7? with i5 6600k is enough for gaming. Are you going to overclock? No? Then with cooler master 212 series would be fine

Remember to quote me (or someone else), otherwise we won't going to recieve your answers...

PC Specs                   PCPartpicker full performance builds (from350$-1250$)

If you don't plan on overclocking, then buy a cheap air cooler or if you, then your current one is a very good one (no need to change). If money is not an issue, stick with the i7 as it is beginning to be useful in gaming with these new GPUs.

Other than that, your build is looking very good, and stick with air cooling if you want your PC to be as quiet as possible.

Hi DarkBlade

Thanks for the recommendation, just a couple of questions

Whats Vega, I've not heard of that so far?

I was thinking myself the M.2 maybe overkill so agree a higher storage standard SATA SSD would be better.

Would you recommend an Asus Z7170 Pro gaming MD instead?

Hi Matu20

Thanks for the advice, I may overclock the CPU later on I do plan to stick with Air cooling rather than water cooling, just more comfortable building with an air cooler and would like to reduce noise where I can. Decided Noctua had some of the best CPU coolers in the biz after watching a comparison video with other aircoolers.

I know the i7 is overspec for gaming but I thought since I am going for an 1080 already and I have the money for an i7 might as well go for the higher spec CPU.

Do you think the CPU cooler I have chosen would be good for overclocking or would you recommend something a bit high spec like the Noctua NH-D14?

Vega is the rumored 'high end' GPU from AMD Redeon, which is suppose to compete with GTX 1080 in performance wise. It should be releasing within this year (rumored in October). So if you are waiting for kabylake then you may also want to look into Vega. Also, Zen CPU from AMD, which is rumored to have limited supply at the end of 2016. It supposed to have a very good improvement in TDP and single core performance than FX8350 series, and comparable to Hasewell maybe.

The air cooler of ur choice can give you a decent OC already imo, if you want best out of that i7 however, water cooling is suggested, but totally depends on ur need. For gaming tho, I dont think i7 need to be OCed to its edge.

Z170 pro is a good enough mobo, it will support OC fine.

If money is not an issue, then the D14 and D15 are at the very top, almost as good as high end watercoolers. Get one of them, I highly recommend them.

And just to inform you, the 6600K will bottleneck the Titan XP, so 6700K would be the ideal CPU for your config :)

Everything is Perfect except for the Cpu Cooler and the Cpu and the Memory.
6700k is a good cpu of course, but its a bit unnecessary, the different in frames per second between 6700k and 6600k is like 59/60 fps.
But 6700k its a good bet for future proofing because who knows if future games will gain advantages from hyperthreading or multi core processor.

as for the memory, dont aim for higher frequency ram, as it wont get you more performance comparing to 2133Mhz.
and the price between em is crazy.

for the Cpu cooler, get a water cooler.

I have to say, I disagree with everything you say.

High end air coolers will perform within marginal difference of an AIO.

Higher speed RAM has been proven to have FPS gains with Skylake.

6700k, if he can afford it, get it. A 6600k will suffice but a 6600k will slow down a 1080 is some CPU intensive games such as GTA V.

i5 will bottleneck a 1080 in CPU intensive games. 212 Evo is a bandwagon product, I bet you recommend it because just about every other use on this forum does without looking into newer and better options such as the Cryorig M9i or the beQuiet! PURE ROCK ( Which is usally $30-$35 for a much quieter and better temps )

Vega is AMD's high end architecture for GPU's that is set to launch very soon.

As for the motherboard, I guess I am more of a performance over looks which is why I would suggest like an AsRock Extreme4+ or Etreme6.

Though the one you said is fine.

Thanks everybody for the advice, decided if I was to pull the trigger on this now I would change the cooler to the higher end Noctua NH-D14 and go for a Samsung Evo 850 500GB SSD. Also, I will get an extra 140mm fan to increase airflow.

My budget is about £1800 ($2300).

One area I've not looked into is keyboard and mice, Prefer a mechanical keyboard, can anybody recommend a good set for FPS games?

SteelSeries Rival 100/300 ( Biggest difference I think is The 300 is RGB and has a bit better sensor and is a bit bigger )

As for the keyboard, depends. I personally like CherryMX Blue's, Green's and White's but depends on what you like.

Here's some of benchmarking result between higher speed ram using skylake cpu and 6700k vs 6600k (they use 980ti which is more than enough to play gta v on max settings)..
as for the cooler, its true, but a high class air cooler vs high class water cooler, a high class water cooler will perform better otherwise people will use high end air cooler than high end liquid cooler especially when overclocking. because its cheaper and easy to installed.

Looks like you pulled those off of Google Images. AFAIK, Digital Foundry proved the whole RAM thing wrong. Maybe not as much with the 6700k, but a ton with the i3-6100. Also, the price difference between 2166 and 2400-2666 is minimal.

well i dont expect u to believe it, because one user to another will always had a different opinion.
so have it your way.

When my personal benchmarks are completely different from others because of my RAM, I'll stick to my opinion ( removing the 800Mhz OC on my CPU )
