What CPU ???

Hey guys!

I'm planning on building my own computer soon(rocking a Q9400 right now) and I don't really now what CPU to choose. I want to do programming, a little bit of 3d modeling, future oriented gaming and working with video games engines(unreal engine, cryengine, unity).

So I wanted to know which CPU is the best according to my needs: an i5 6600 or an i7 6700 (I don't want to overclock).

Thanks

i7 6700 but i would personally bump up to X99 and get a 5820k/6800k

The kind of work you're looking to do would probably benefit from the i7-6700.

You can see some performance comparisons here:

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-6700-vs-Intel-Core-i5-6600

I can see your knew here,CPUBoss is not a good source and is not very accurate, use something like CPU user benchmark as it is more reliable

I'm not new here, I just did a quick search to compare the two is all.

Though I had no idea CPUBoss wasn't a good source. I'll keep that in mind.

Well thanks everyone for these quick answers!

I'm not gonna bump to X99 because I am on a budget and you get less single core performance with a 5820k/6800k and it's not worth an extra 200$.

Thank you for your help, i'm gonna go for the i7 6700 :)

CPUBoss is often heavily biased and mostly just plain wrong, as is it's sister GPUBoss.

According to GPUBoss, I should keep my 9500GT as it out performs almost every modern offering!!!!
