Should I be content?

So currently my setup is a DELL U2312HM 1080p 23" monitor as my primary display and a LG 49UF690T 4K tv above it for content consumption.

 

I was this annoying itch to upgrade the Dell to an 21:9. Specifically the X34. I was looking at other alternative, the Z35 is not much cheaper where I stay so seems to be a no brainer to go for the X34.

 

But

 

BUT I need you guys to talk me out of it. 

 

+I REALLY really want to try 21:9

+I REALLY really want to try G-SYNC

+I REALLY really want to try 100Hz

 

-I know I don't need it.

-I can run 3440*1440 on the TV to emulate 21:9. But the input lag is godawful. Not to mention I have to physically look up and play.

-Movies on the TV is nicer.

-It is bloody expensive but I'm paying it over 2 years and 2 years is nothing on monitor's lifespan.

 

I game a lot. Mostly overwatch nowadays. I know the devs screwed up the FOV for 21:9 but other games i play should still benefit from the 21:9 aspect ratio.

 

My PC spec currently is  a 4790k, GTX980 (I really need to update my sig) should still be enough if i knock down AA.

Stop being too spoiled, Spoilt. 2 years is way too much anyways and you have a setup I dream of. Just stop. Only upgrade if your display dies. Other than that, don't you dare.

-Do you actually experience tearing? tryed by capping the fr?using vsync?

-Can you actually drive games at high fr such as 100 FPS? What GPU do you have?

G-Sync really isn't worth it. It's just V-sync but at any framerate, not too hard to imagine. Unless screen tearing is ruining your life it's really not worth.

G-Sync also isn't worth using if you're trying to play competitively. It has less input lag than V-Sync but still more than no syncing of any kind.

 

100hz+ is definitely worth.

if you cant pay it up front for a PC its not for you. because in 2 years youll feel the upgrade itch again. you dont need an upgrade

Yea this is bullshit... If you can pay for something without interest over a longer period of time you should always do that (over other options) even if you can pay upfront right away. It's called the time value of money.

where is it defined that there is no interest?

whenever i finance anything, it ends up being more expensive in the long run

along with the fact that the upgrade itch will rear its ugly head again in time. most people after building a rig would (especially understanding the performance of all the newer parts) think about their eventual upgrade. 

 

plus if your ever down on your luck, its one less payment you have to make.

 

this may be my own bias, but after growing up in the poor slums of brasil, i began to distrust "financing" options more and more. especially in a country where the PS4 launched for 4000 Reals. (~2000 USD at the time)

In the US almost all vendor's (including paypal), allow you (for purchases over X amount) to pay the amount of a purchase WITHOUT interest (aka same total amount) over the course of 6-12+ months if you make required minimum payments. It's a pretty sweet deal actually.

well it depends, especially on Vendor (BTW i haved lived in the US for a decade)

i purchase all my hardware from newegg. and according to them, its interest free on the X34 if payed off in 12 months

Well yea, that is exactly what I am saying... Almost every one has something like that (wallmart, amazon, shopko, costco, paypal, microcenter, newegg, ncix etc) but the terms and duration might vary a bit. and thus there is no reason to pay it off right away (assuming you can afford it in the first place), because time value of money

I got the PG279Q after the X34 was way too much for me. Ever display looks horrible and feels choppy. Don't listen to the jealous people. If you have the money go for it. G-sync is a real treat to the eye and so is higher refresh rates then 60hz. IPS is also great for gaming and not gaming. You are a PC enthusiast, it's a hobby. You are meant to spend too much money on it. People spend way more money on cars, bikes, RC cars, pottery, stamp collecting, and so on. Everything costs a lot when you get into it. If you are going to get the X34 wait for the X34p.

To clarify. It is a 24 month 0% interest installments. So I'm paying the same either way and my thoughts is exactly same as @Curufinwe_wins

Yeah, I thought of X34P but i don't really want to pay more for a slightly more curved display. Other than that, the specs are identical right?

No it comes 100hz out of the box and you can OC it further from their.

I'm using a 980 now. I do see tearing but I'm living with it because the input delay when using v-sync is even worse. Which is why I'm so stoked for G-SYNC and was one of the main reason for me to get an nVidia card. I'm aware that some games do not support 21:9 but running the x34 as a 27" 2560*1440@100Hz doesn't sound too bad.

100hz+ is definitely worth.

I'm more into the experience of the game than playing competitively. If i was competitive i would've opted for one of those 144hz 1ms TN panels. Tearing just kinda breaks the immersion for me.

 

Too bad there isn't a demo pc nearby with a g sync monitor that I can see for myself.

It is right on the edge but it might be using DP 1.4 I think
